Still Pedaling

Weaslie's plum tuckered out from the Tour.

It's starting to pile up. The paper bag is Eleanor's yarn. Jenny's wool is in the plastic bag.

Grandma has an interesting texture. It spun up pretty and was easy to spin, but felt much like maybe horse hair would feel. I can look at this picture and still feel the fiber. Doubt it transfers through to someone who hasn't felt it, but if it does, let me know. Interesting idea at least.

And here is the yarn. I ended up using the miniSpinner for this last portion because I started panicking that I was going to run out of time* - that's a huge bag of B. Willard waiting on me - trying to spin, weave and keep up with the farm stuff. I'm probably fine, but a little worry doesn't hurt. Sort of like having company forces you to clean up the house ;-).

YIKES - better get busy!

* I don't spin actually any faster with the miniSpinner, but with the big bobbins and WooLee Winder, it adds up quicker.

I find that wool fleece that feels or looks like horse hair doesn't felt well at all. Have you found this to be true?
Keep up the good work. I love that gray fleece. It's a beautiful color.

I haven't done much felting so can't say for sure, but if I had to guess I'd say no. Anyone else?

Thanks for the quick response. Kind of like the dog's hair. It's too straight and doesn't want to open and close it's fiber.
Also, I love that first photo. Is that a Corgi? Do we share the chaos that rules our homes?... except when they are asleep.

Yeah, um, that would be our _________ corgi. Fill in the blank as applies each day ;-).

I also love the color, and on a cool morning here in Virginia something made from it would be kind of nice!

You mentioned about 'getting busy.' There's never enough time, is there?

You have outraced yourself! In addition to the spinning, you have put the warp on the loom and begun weaving Punkin's wool. No wonder Weaslie is so tuckered out.
The wool fleece that isnt soft to the touch can be used for pillow stuffing. Stick it into a zippered pillow case and cover it with whatever you choose. You will find lots of purpose for it to be sure.

This yarn is for the woven wall hanging - perfect for that. Would make pretty flat, prickly pillow stuffing ;-).

There may be something wrong with me. Actually I am certain of it, but what I mean to say is that I don't mind a course wool. I wouldn't want it wrapped around my neck or anything, but there is something comforting about knitting with and wearing course wool. For me. And I'll chime in here and agree that course wool doesn't felt well.
I am envious of all your beautiful handspun (and soon to be handspun) fiber!

I DO spin faster on my mS, although the WW contributes to that. I realized when I took my day 12 photo last night that both my TdF projects are "footloose" - mS and spindle. Hee! I've also decided that I much prefer to spindle on the smaller, faster Turkish spindles. Will probably save my Swans/standards for plyiing in the future.

When I look at Grandma's wool, all i can think of is -

"boy that would make durable work mittens for the winter"...
