Cat-aclysm

n. Any great upheaval that causes sudden and violent changes.

Not the kind of story you'd usually expect me to tell here, eh?

It appears, following the loss of his trusted friend Boo, that the king of the condo has fallen. He was allowed to spend that one super cold night sharing his old cubby with Eli and at the time I was very happy, thinking all was going to be well and that Comby, Brushy, Eli and Claire Bear would all be friends and live happily ever after.

I'm not exactly sure what's going on, but for the last couple of weeks Comby has no longer been sleeping in his insulated and heated cave, but has been sleeping out on one of the wicker chairs. It too is heated (and surrounded by the lovely plastic) and he's seemed happy enough out there until the last few days.

Now he's moved to the other chair, with no heater, and even when the heated chair is empty, he doesn't seem to be "allowed" over there. I feel bad for him and it can't be just a coincidence that this started after Boo's passing. The odd thing though is all the cats liked Boo at the end and he seemed to enjoy their company as well. I can't imagine that he played the role of protector or "back up" for Comby, but maybe in some sort of emotional way he was.

I know that eventually they'll all get things worked out, but in the meantime, I feel almost guilty watching Wiwi sleeping in her cave. She's a crotchety old cat though and there is no chance she's sharing anything with anyone.

I'm thinking Comby will eventually move at least to the laundry room, if not the bedroom upstairs. lol!

I'm having cat "pecking order" problems, too. I don't know what the heck is going on. We have had the same cats for a couple of years. One poor cat isn't allowed downstairs at all anymore. I've had to put a litter box upstairs.

I have often wondered how those people handle things that have bunches of cats....just not care? My sammy is rather mean to Monkey-moo, gets it in his head that she can't be ....there...if he wants there. Terry, my husband, then picks Sammy up and pushes him off of where ever it was Sammy pushed Monkey from. Does it work...? I don't know, makes Terry feel better.

If you are interested I have had luck with Flower Essence, email me if you want to know more.

I mix up a spray for Sam...anger/jealousy... and one for Monkey, fear/ anger etc. and things will calm down for a month or two.

Is it possible that Comby is just not feeling well? If he is running a low grade fever or the like, he might not want to lay on the heated areas. I know allot of folks dismiss animal grief, but I'm sure he IS still grieving for his buddy Boo, and that might have translated into a physical ailment too. Or maybe he just doesn't have the heart right now to fuss with the other cats and they are taking advantage of him. Sometimes I get right in the middle of the 'kitty bed wars' with the outside cats, until I come to my senses, and go back in the house! ;-) Here is hoping that Comby gets back on his game soon.

Tammy has made an excellent point. Any odd animal behavior could always possibly be a physical issue as well as emotional and should be checked out. Comby does seem to be okay and Saint Tim made an extra insulated box over the weekend...so now they all have something new to scuffle over. Cats :-/
