Epilogue

We buried Miss Ewenice out back on the hill next to Miss Aria. There was a mix up at the rental shop and Saint Tim had to hand dig her grave. It was late and we were a mix of tired, sad, mad and numb. Afterwards I finished up the nightly chores, gathered up Blossom, a couple coffee cups and my camera that I had accidentally left in the barn (!) the night before and we slowly headed for the house.

The sun was setting and the yard was all in shadow. We have had such beautiful skies and sunsets all spring and I turned to look over my shoulder...and saw it. One remaining patch of sunlight. The only patch of sunlight in the entire yard. Under Renny and Ewenice's favorite tree.

And I took one last picture.

Loving them so much can lead to such heartbreak. But it's always worth sharing your life with them. She was such a lovey.

I'm not sure I could have composed myself enough to take a picture; I think I would have dissolved on the spot.....

You know, if you can make them cry, you're a great writer/photographer.

Oh Sara, I am so very sorry. I can't stop crying; for your loss of such a steadfast and patient friend, for the blessings of getting to know her through your words and meeting her and feeling her gentle gaze in return, and for the void she leaves within the flock. They will miss her steady, comforting presence. She had a long, wonderful life, thanks to you, and you gave her a beautiful voice. I will never forget her gentle, comforting friendship for Renny.
Love and Hugs to all,
Cathy
If you feel like sharing, I'd love to hear how she came to live with you.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Miss Ewenice touched a lot of lives, and this was a fitting tribute. It's hard to outlive the ones we love.

So very, very sad that Miss Ewenice is gone. She was everyone's favorite! So appreciated for how she was "foster mom' to many lambs. Keebs,Graham Lamb, Lorna Doone-buggy, Lalla/Lila and baby Blossom all benefitted from her calming maternal presence - and those are just the ones I know about. There may have been more.

I know she will leave as big a hole in the flock as she does in your hearts.

That beam of light midst the pending darkness is thought to be a sign of peace from the heavens. That’s Ewenice’s thank you gift to you, Sara.

I am very, very sad to hear that Miss Ewenice has had to leave her friends. I am shedding tears for her and everyone who loved her.
I do know for sure though that she is now in a blessed rainbow coloured place and that when we all meet each other again one day we will all be so very happy.
All my love and blessings from Sherbetx
