This is where I found Hank as I headed to the barn.
A couple years ago - I guess the manure spreader was broken - we had to just pile up cleanings from the horse stalls. Hank loved sleeping on that mound! We've made him a "muck pile" every winter since.
I think it gets him up off the cold ground, probably heats up a little as it composts, he can snuggle down into it and with the wind usually coming from the west, the old Grahaminator2000 provides a little wind block as well. Plus, with his sheep all tucked in behind him, he can keep an eye on the rest of the farm.
It was cold enough that Baba slept in the barn last night. That doesn't happen very often. She's back out this morning. The sun...
Hank has several other places he can sleep, inside the barn, inside the barn on a deep straw bed, inside the barn on a deep straw bed inside an insulated dog house... This is his favorite spot.

The throne of the king.... Good boy Hank!
Our meg sleeps on the compost pile here too, I also think she may be taking advantage of the warmth. She has a heated dog house, and a 3000 sq ft barn, but curls up in the compost pile. Ah well, whatever keeps them happy!
He's such a good boy.......
Hank look all comfy in his nest! :)
I love Hank. What a handsome and smart boy he is.
Hank takes his work seriously.
Smart boy Hank. Keeps warm and on the lookout!
Hank is the best.

That's neat that he's found the perfect spot to stay warm and soak up some sunshine!
Merry Christmas to you and your family,
Judy
Up here where it got to -40* last night, the horses love to camp out for a nap on top of the compost heap too.
11 night before last and 60 today and the house doors all open :-o.
Wonderful photos. Growing up my Dad had a dog that loved sleeping outside year round. One night he shut him up in the barn because it was to be very cold. In the morning the dog was sleeping outside the barn having chewed a hole in the barn door. My Dad never shut him up again!
