November

Usually putting the month end compilation together reminds me that no matter how bad the month might have felt, there was actually a lot of good.  This month it reminded me what a crap fest the first 8 days were.

Do not be alarmed at the screen shot that will draw your eye to "deleting your blog".  It was actually the last line about "suicide prevention" that I was, sadly, not surprised to see on a suggested topics list.  The problem wasn't a blog issue, but it might have ruined the blog if it couldn't be fixed.  All is well now, thankfully.

As always, as I scrolled through pictures and videos, I was reminded of some beautiful sunrises, moonlight, flowers and bees surviving the extreme cold, sweet sheep, friends and cookie parties.  And somehow I'd forgotten about the Northern Lights.  Who on earth forgets about something like that!

I'm glad I have these compilations.

July

July...was brutal.  So incredibly hot and humid.  Demoralizing.  I did manage to spend about 36 hours up north for a wedding...and that made it almost worse.  Worse in a  "need to buy a lottery ticket" way.  And yet, watching these photo flash by, there was a little good mixed in...but I can say it was better watching it than living it.

The Blog Is 18 Years Old!

I'm glad the blog is still here and it's back doing more than just recording the month end compilations, but just the same, here's January.  Lots of good memories of one of our biggest snow events since we've been here :-).

Cheers to another month and another year!

PS  As I'm typing the labels (far right column and a good way to search for things if you are looking) I realized that I don't think there are any Possum pictures this month.  That would be because Possum spent most of the month curled up in the house ;-).

October

October was a blur, but it was pretty much a fun blur.  I missed posting about pretty much all of it.  I even missed taking pictures of one of the fun things because I left not only my camera, but also my phone at home.  That was unintentional.  Sigh...

The biggest event of October was obviously The National Drive.  There are several pictures and videos included here.  I'd love to say I'll get back to post more stories and pictures, but if we've learned nothing else...that very rarely happens so here are some highlights you can watch for as the video plays:

We saw the northern lights one night!  One of my favorite memories is my friends out walking around in the dark taking pictures and texting me that they were not too far from my camp so Bea and I jumped out of our warm (it was cold up there a couple of nights) and went out to join them.  I was wearing sheep pajamas so it was extra epic haha.

My friend Amy has a new horse and she and Remy came to the Drive.  It was big fun.  They both did a Really Good Job and we had a great time together at horse camp :-D.

Another friend, Julie, came over and I hadn't seen her in years.  She was originally a horse friend, but was also the first person who sat me down at her spinning wheel and let me try it out.  I spun some Punkin roving and will never forget that feeling.  Oh, Julie also took that great picture of Punkin I use on his page.  It was so nice to see her.

Bea had a blast with all her aunties and 20 not only did Safari Drive photos again this year, but also got to drive one of the trains next door.

The Italian dinner was incredibly good and fun.  I wish we all lived closer.

Archie made sure I didn't leave him out this month.  There's some footage of Tim cleaning the barn...which is fun to watch if you ain't cleaning the barn ;-).  Pinot had a good month too now that it's cooled down and he can go out more.  The market day over at Country Boy was fun.

Hug a Sheep Day was perfect in guests and weather.  Maisie's Halloween costume was a hit - maybe our best one yet, well, except maybe the angel one.  My bumpy pumpkin is still hanging in there, but fading fast.  I wish they could all live forever.

We are a week in to November now...speaking of blurs!

July

July was a pretty fun month...except the heat and drought...which is easier to forget when it takes over a week to get the month end compilation put together.

The highlight of the month was getting to see my friend Robin and her dear cousin Caroline.  We had a great visit and did pretty much everything we wanted to do including driving Frankie, complete with Christmas in July sleigh bells, making sauerkraut, taking a small painting class, setting up together for the Bluegrass Yarn and Fiber Crawl, some punch needle work, checking for monarchs, watering gardens, taking care of sheep, talking sheep and fiber, cooking good food, going to the farm market, taking Bea to Dairy Queen, and really, really enjoying just getting to hang out together.

"Our" purple martins had already headed south, but we had plenty of company from large groups stopping by on their way though.  More this year than ever.  I wonder if it's because we have two houses now and we are "on the map".

The Tour de Fleece happened and while I lost the course several times, I did get some nice yarn spun and I'll share that in my next post.  Maisie "kindly" has provided the perfect TdF wrap up picture to lead it off ;-).

It Was A Year

I had too many pictures for just one compilation, so I finally just gave up and put them into two.  I'd like to say it was because 2023 was so fun that I couldn't fit it all in, but that really wasn't the case...but looking back on what I want to remember about the year...it wasn't all bad.

What The What

Good grief.  It's October 10th.

I still don't have my September month end compilation done.  I haven't posted a blog since something like the 26th.  I don't have the 2024 calendar finished...but I'm working on it.

Looking back, there is always sadness somewhere.  But lots of good.  And so much I've forgotten. I'm glad I "have" to look back, whether for a month end compilation or the yearly calendar.

Here's something interesting I stumbled over a few minutes ago.

Where the heck is Murphy?!?

This was taken the first week of January.  I'm going to enjoy scrolling through the pictures even more now because I'm curious to see if I can figure out when Murphy took over being the boss.  And how or why.  I mean, did Archie try to lead them up a tree chasing squirrels and they decided they needed to vote in a better leader?  Stay tuned!

* * * * *

So yes, there will be a 2024 calendar.  I have some great pictures and stories to share this year - one of my all time favorite pictures of Maisie, an extra fun one of Pinto, a sweet picture of Baba that you won't be able to help smiling every time you look at...

I will have them ready no later than the Hug a Sheep Day farm party which will be on Saturday the 28th.  Actually, I have something fun planned for Friday the 27th as well, but the traditional farm party will be on Saturday, as usual.

Maggie and I also have a fun Christmas kit almost ready to share.

Okay, back to work!

July

July was hot and humid, but we got plenty (and then some) of rain so the grass grew and nothing turned soul crushingly brown and crispy.  I already know it's going to be hot.  I can live with the extra humidity if it's from rain.  I'd prefer it didn't flood the barn, but we can deal with that.

The B Garden has been a real treat this summer.  We've had several monarch appearances already (usually not until August) and have seen several caterpillars!  I'm not sure if this is just going to be a good monarch year all over (finger and toes crossed) or if we've just added enough habitat that our farm has made their map.

Our year supply of hay and straw is in the barn.  The Tour de Fleece was fun and productive.  I pulled the big girl camera out and enjoyed taking some nice pictures.  Archie only nearly fell off a couple of things this month, Possum has fully embraced the air conditioner life, and Bea has learned what a "pup cup" from Dairy Queen is.

Onward into August!
