May
May was a big month and so much never made the blog...because sometimes it's more important to keep your head up and keep treading water. Springtime...
Maryland Sheep and Wool seems like forever ago. May rain brought lots of May flowers. The butterflies are arriving. The bees are doing great. I may still try to say more about the little rabbit sweater. I definitely will say and show more about the addition to the Wool House...when it's finally finished.

I Gave Up...Again
I'd hoped the greenhouse rosemary would either send up some new growth from the bottom this spring or that the cutting it tried to give me would root, but neither happened. I carefully cut off the two spider cocoons and pulled the rest out.
The greenhouse sheep doesn't look quite so lonely now with two tiny new friends...and Possum.
The rosemary in the front is a trailing variety. The rosemary in the back is a more cold tolerant plant, but I'll have to go check the tags to remember the names. I'll try to do better this time around. I miss my huge old friend :-/.

April
April was busy (unless you were Archie), but fun. Lots of spring flowers, new bees, new raised beds (that I'm having to replant after the really hard freeze over the weekend :-/) all the spinning, a little painting, beautiful moons, interesting fog, good sheep, good friends...

Meanwhile, Back Before Spring Shearing...
April has been just a blur. These pictures are fun of Archie and Possum, so better late than never. I also have pre-shearing sheep pictures and post shearing pictures. Any interest in seeing those or has that ship sailed until next year? Maybe as a puzzle or two?
Archie and Possum both loved hanging out on the roll bale.
But as with most things "Possum", frequently dissolved into a fight.
"Possum!"
"What?"
The top roof is the one Archie fell off of a few years ago? Well, he fell off the lower roof, too, on the way down.
I'm guessing he only has about three lives left...that I know about.

Speaking Of Cats
I just added a cute picture of Bullseye to yesterday's post. I'd saved it...and then promptly forgot about it.
On a crazy note, a video of Possum and Archie with a little bit of Bea went viral on Instagram last week. Not millions of views viral (thank goodness), but as of this morning, 230,000 views.
Leave it to Possum, the Murphy of the cat world here.
I think part of why this happened was a short poem by Carl Sandburg that begins "The fog comes on little cat feet." I wasn't aware of that, so am happy I got something of value from the 318 (!) comments that the post received...most of which I don't believe were bots.

July
July...was brutal. So incredibly hot and humid. Demoralizing. I did manage to spend about 36 hours up north for a wedding...and that made it almost worse. Worse in a "need to buy a lottery ticket" way. And yet, watching these photo flash by, there was a little good mixed in...but I can say it was better watching it than living it.

Bullseye
"I'm Bullseye and I'm the new kid here. Except I'm not a kid anymore. I am officially a big boy and this is my barn. I keep an eye on everything up here. It's a Big Job."
"I watch everything including the sheep and the chickens, but mostly I watch for the lady who feeds me. I really like food and I've learned that I really like pets and cuddles too. The food lady says that's a Big Job too!"
This is where things started. I heard a cat crying at the back door one snowy bitterly cold morning early in February. I opened the door and found a half grown kitten...and Archie. I'm not sure if it was just a coincidence they were out there together or if Archie told him to follow him home and get some breakfast.
We tried for several days to trap him, but while he was young he already had some street smarts and I realized it was going to take some time. If we'd have known for sure he was a boy, I wouldn't have been so panicked, but for a good while I was pretty sure he was a she and fixing to be a teen mom :-(.
I set the heated box up on the porch and he sat in there for a little while, but I think Possum ran him off. Possum can be very not nice to other cats and he was no exception. He'd find a warm-ish spot and the next day he'd have moved on to a different spot. I was not sure what I was going to do about that, especially if there were kittens coming.
One night I got him trapped in the greenhouse and hoped I could get a better look at him, but the greenhouse is frail and he figured out how to break out one of the back panels. A day or so after that he moved up to the barn and started sneaking in for offered food up there.
I set up the big dog crate, started feeding him at the front, then the middle and then the back and then shut the door and we were off to the vet where we learned he was just a potbellied wormy boy and not a way too young girl getting ready to have kittens. Whew!
I kept him in the cage for several days and got to where I could pet him some and I thought he was good and settled and wouldn't split at first chance and then finally opened the door. I told him he was now an Equinox Farm cat and that it was a pretty good place to be a cat...except for Possum ;-).
That was Saturday and he's taken over the barn and even seems to be winning over Possum...or at least flying under her radar. He's super friendly with me and just needs some experience with strangers and I think he's going to be one of the nicest kitties we've ever had :-).
