Meanwhile Back At Lamb Camp

I am so far behind with so many sweet pictures, but hey, would it be awful if Lamb Camp lasted until summer? I don't think so :-).

Guess who this is!

His two brothers/sisters don't look anything like him.

Leave your guess in the comments and I'll draw a winner this weekend.  The prize will be a set of 2015 Lamb Camp cards...which I hope to have ready for the Kentucky Sheep and Fiber Festival next weekend...but man, it has been tough sledding this spring.  We'll see.  It will all work out :-).

While It Appears All She Does Is Sleep...

Well, she does sleep a lot - momma's little couch potato ;-).

"I love sleeping with my mom."

Any time I sit down out in the yard (or kitchen, bed, couch) Liddy comes over, paws a couple times, her knees buckle, then her back legs and down she goes, tucked in right next to me.  She wiggles a time or two, tucks her nose into my elbow if she's near my waist or tucks it over my leg is she's down by my knees or feet.  Asleep.

After awhile she stretches a front leg out, then another, then makes some sleepy groans and stretches her whole body and then she's really asleep.  She'll sleep like that for a good long while and then, when your back is cramped and your butt is tired and you'd love to be able to get up, so you start talking to her, rubbing her back, "wakey wakey little Liddy"... you get the sleepy eyes above.  And you keep sitting there ;-).

Just to prove she does get up and play...occasionally.

Thanks Auntie Reg and Valerie for the videos and pictures :-).

Above And Beyond

Summer is finally here. Yeah... It was too hot to sit in the playpen (or work above it), so I let Liddy tootle around in front of the barn while I worked on the Wool House porch. She's been slow to learn to eat grass so I was happy to see her nosing around at all the green weeds goodness in the driveway. The next thing I saw..

I had hoped that Kate would be at least somewhat okay with a bottle lamb when one showed up (as they frequently do around here ;-). There are many Border Collies who would NOT. Sweet Kate has far exceeded my hopes in all regards.

So has Sweet Liddy.

Above and beyond.

"I'm okay with you taking these pictures so long as you don't put them on the internet where my friends can see me!"

"I'm glad there's a lot of comfy grass in the driveway!"  Liddy

"I okay with you taking pictures of the driveway so long as you don't post them on the internet where people can see them."  Saint Tim ;-).

It *Looks* Like A Normal Skirting Table...

But, if you look closer...

"Who's in there?"

A sleepin' lambie :-).

She really does do more than sleep.  It's just hard for me to catch her on camera much of the time because she stays so close to me.  She'll get bolder as she gets older.

Kate found a shady spot to watch everything.

Pretty Petunia :-).

The half on the right is headed all the way to California!

Some Fun Facts About Liddy

Well, we'll start with an un-fun fact.  Liddy's mom had her and another big lamb out in the field, where Kathy found her nearly dead because her mom only loved the bigger, probably first born lamb.  Liddy was tiny, maybe was weak to begin with and didn't behave normally, who knows.

Kathy brought her in, got her warmed up a little, tube fed her some colostrum and put her in her truck with the sun shining in - the lamb incubator.  That's where Reg and I met her.  I didn't think it looked good, but Kathy worked with her all day and I even got to tube feed her myself and somehow she made it through the night.

The next morning Kathy put her back in with her mom and for a couple of days she was able to nurse some but she was slow and so small and couldn't compete with her big sister and finally, again, her mom said "Enough with this silly baby."  Over the next few days Kathy tried to graft her on to another mom, but no one would take her.

"Can you believe that?"

When it was obvious she was destined for the lamb bar, but was still too small and not super strong to compete with lambs even a week younger than she was, I decided to bring her home.  I wasn't ready for a lamb yet, but she needed a mom and I couldn't resist.  I was very worried though that at 8 days old, she wouldn't really bond with me like my new babies do.

I had nothing to worry about.  What Liddy really wanted most out of life was a mom.  Someone who'd talk to her, rub her ears, let her snuggle up for naps, keep her warm, give her lots of babas and love her.  Her favorite thing is still taking a nap curled up next to me.  Any time I sit down, she comes right over and tucks in.  She's sitting on my lap as I type this....with one hand...which is why I'm going to wrap it up.  Whew!

Some fun facts:

Liddy has two spots on her back.

And amazingly long eye lashes.

And a gray neckerchief :-).

And those jungle print knees!

Oh, and she's 1/4 Suffolk and 3/4 Texel.

More later.  I need to go pick up some more goat milk ;-).
