Chicken Sisters

Our chickens came from Mt. Healthy Hatcheries and I'm sure they were all hatched in a huge incubator and surely separated by colors, but somehow these two Brahma "sisters" seem to know they are at very least the same breed and spend most of their time together.

The Bald Eagle (left) is a Dark Brahma and Goldilocks (right) is a Buff Brahma.  I wouldn't mind them all loose in the yard, but they are terribly destructive to my garden areas and the Easter egg hunting (looking for where they've hidden to lay their eggs) is...frustrating.

I'll stop here before I start complaining about springtime :-o.

I love to have my chickens free range, but they do make a huge mess. It makes gardening hard. Even with a fence up, they will still fly over.

So do you have a fenced chicken run for the rest now?

I have a fenced pen, but once everything died off for winter, I let them free range the yard. It's time to go back to the pen ;-).

Pretty Chicken Sisters! Free Range eggs are more expensive...hunting them must be why! :)

They are a pretty couple of sista's! I was always terrible at hunting eggs, even as a kid, so I get where you're coming from with that and spring. 😊

Free Range is very hard on gardens and flowers.

May I come and spend a week - hopefully for each season of the year - just to enjoy your bonding with all the farm family members, sense of humor, and abounding love for all creatures, great and small? You bring me absolute delight daily.

I love Brahma's. I have two Buff Brahma's and they, too, stick together for the most part. They're the largest chickens that I have, other than the Black Austrolorp (I actually had to read up on Jersey Giants because she's that big!). Can't free range here because of a huge predator population. Coyotes come through the yard/field almost daily and the hawks are numerous. We have red tailed and Cooper's mostly. I've lost too many hens in the past and don't want to lose any more but I know they'd love to be out. Jan in MA

They are so chubby. Are they friendly? Look like they would be fun to hold.
