Escape From Del Boca Vista

As I was taking pictures of Elizabeth the other afternoon, I kept waiting for Jester to move away from the gate corner so I could take some of him as well.  He looked so sad staring out at the other sheep.

"Everyone else gets to go out and play and I'm stuck in this little paddock with a crazy old lady who yells at me all the time."

I get these mournful looks every now and then.  Sometimes he does actually want to get out of "prison" and sometimes I open the gate for him and he just keeps staring at me.  "I really just wanted a cookie."  I opened the gate.

And out he went.

Usually when he goes out for a walk he just wants to go in the sheep stalls and see what's new. He thought about it this time.

But headed out to pasture.

But then he stopped.

And decided to come back.

"I sure wish I was back in my paddock (that I just left 3 minutes ago)."

Would you maybe like a cookie?

"Yeah, a cookie would be nice."

"Or maybe a bunch of cookies."

This is where he was politely munching on graham crackers (instead of JUMPING on me, Baaxter and Murphy!).

And then he happily checked back in to Del Boca Vista :-).

Jester's Big Day Out! He looked like he enjoyed his adventure. Thanks for the morning smile!

What did Elizabeth have to say about the Jester's adventure?

He probably forgot where he was going and why...or perhaps he felt guilty for leaving Elizabeth...so glad he got cookies:)

Oh Jester! Those sad, mournful looks! My heart goes out to you . . . . maybe another cookie?

I'm waiting for the day when I don't get jumped for cookies. Luckily, Linden is too fat to jump, as is Juno. Norman, however, feels that is the ONLY way to get a cookie! Jester is such a photogenic guy. Well, actually, ALL your sheep are photogenic. Or maybe it's the photographer???

Everyone needs a cookie now and then. Can't believe we had a 10 minute downpour this morning... won't get the grass growing but did wet down the dust and hopefully helped the firefighter battling yet one more fire near Yosemite. Both my haystacks were uncovered ....

There's my boy! Love Jester. I'm giving him a cookie (okay, a box) in my mind.

What a wonderful touching and poignant series of photos. It just made me smile and marvel at the gifts animals give us by being who they are!

I think he felt guilty about leaving Elizabeth.

Did you give her a cookie too, or can she not eat them any more?

Is he sick or just keeping the Old Lady company?

He's very old, but not sick. The huge lump on his neck looks bad, but doesn't really seem to affect him very much. We'd have had it operated on years ago if we'd had any idea he was going to live this long. SO, mostly he's in there so he can have unlimited access to food that the others definitely don't need and also to keep his last original Indiana sheep friend company. I think he understands.

I have no doubt Jester understands just what his job is these days. What a good boy he is to keep Elizabeth company. Love them so much!
