Baxter Black

"My name is Baxter Black!  They said that was perfect for me 'cause I'm black, Baxter has an "x" in it, I like to talk a lot, I have a white mark on my shoulder that looks like a cow horse brand and he's one of their favorite poets.  I'm actually yawning in this picture, not yelling, but Mom said you might want to see my black spotted tongue. I stopped yelling after that first day when they finally started feeding me better.  Mom says she's never fed a lamb so much goat milk in one day in her life!  She also says I'm the best little black lambie she's ever had so I guess that's why she loves me so much."

"This is my favorite toy.  Well, it WAS my favorite toy when I was little.  Now that I'm 5 days old I get to go out into the lavender garden when Mom's pulling weeds and I race around on the paths and climb on stuff and eat dirt and dried leaves and nibble on green grass that's not s'posed to be in there.  She took my baba in there too and when I got tired she gave it to me and said it was time to go to the house and take a nap."

"I love to sleep in the dog house.  I tootle around on the porch for a bit then put myself to bed when I'm ready and I sleep and sleep and sleep.  That's the only time Mom can do stuff and when I wakes up she gives me a baba and says I did a Good Job and thanks for being so helpful and then we go back out and play some more."

OMG, Baxter Black!!! My favourite small animal vet turned into the funniest poet on EARTH! You are right on. Just noticed you had a link to him, it'll be fun to hear him again. Thanks.
Glad Baxter is getting goat milk :)

Oops, let's make that 'former large
animal vet'!

His mother is a Texel/Jacob/Polypay cross and she was bred to a Polypay ram, so his wool should be soft, but I'm guessing the tips will sun bleach out to a chocolate brown like his mother's does.

No wonder he was so hungry -- he had a lot of making up to do, from not getting enough his whole life! What a relief, to not be hungry all the time any more.

Thank you, goat mamas, whoever you are, for helping Baxter get a full tum. :-)

What an excellent name for this baby. My daughter and I are looking forward to following his development, just like we did for Maisie!

Welcome Baxter! You are quite a character already. You have no idea how lucky you are to have landed this new home.

Lucky lamb. He doesn't know it yet, but he is a very lucky boy to come live with you and the rest of the flock. Welcome, Baxter!

I like his expression in that second picture. He looks like a very curious and alert lambie.
