The Neighbor Kids

We had a bumper crop of apples this year.  While I'd like to say I put up applesauce...I didn't.  I was afraid to feed too many to the sheep and the horses didn't need that many either.  So there they sat.

I looked out yesterday and the ground under the tree was covered with birds.  A bird party!

Even the cardinals were there.  If you look close ;-).

I love watching the birds come in to our feeder.  Especially when the weather is getting ready to take a nasty turn.  The birds know.  It makes me happy to help fill their little bird tummies so they stay warm(er) when it's cold.

I especially love our bird bath.  So do the birds.  Even on days colder than I'd want to stick my feet in water, it's really a bird party :-D.

They keep a close watch on their surroundings.  I have to sneak around to watch them, even through the windows.

Hmmm, I wonder why... ;-)

One of your kitties loves to watch the birds as well. With the frigid weather, we've had tons of birds at the feeder this fall.
I missed putting up the pears this year and since they all fall so quickly, I think the only thing they fed was the Yellow Jacket Wasps. Better to have a bird party!

It's fun to watch the birds no matter how many legs you have! :-)

I absolutely love the composition of that last shot. My matching cat looks longingly out my back door as well but she never looks that good doing it. :)

I planted some Mountain Ash trees here in hopes of attracting the Cedar Waxwings someday. Your little House Sparrows sure do enjoy that bath! My cats would be the reason I can't do that here.

I am going through my 3rd 50-lb bag of sunflower seeds this winter. And second 20-lb bag of shelled peanuts. The doves especially, seem to like the peanuts.

One of the neighboring farms sells lard, so I bought a big slab to use in cooking and also suet making. The birds love their suet blocks, especially when it is very cold outside.

How do you keep the bird bath from freezing? Does that metal hose serve to deliver water or heat? I use a big heated dog bowl for the birds' watering needs but a nice bird bath, such as yours, would be so much more fun for the birds to splash in.

I have a bird bath and have just been able to use it again.. When it's -12 or colder here the water I put out there just freezes to quickly.. But now that the temperatures are in the 30's for a few days I can take warm water out to them.. They just love it~!
That is a beautiful cat~! Great picture ~!
Have a Tiggeriffic Day~! ta ta for now from Iowa:)

The "hose" is a covered electric cord that runs a bowl heater. I've had it for years and it works great. Just sits in there. I put a rock over the top to make it less scary looking and give the birds something to stand on if they want :-).

That reminds me I must feed my birds. Had taken down the feeder before a nasty storm hit and Ive forgotten to hang it back up. Your feeder is really pretty and makes a nice view out the window.
