Yarn [Over] And Over And Over And Over...

I might be able to knit a sweater successfully, but give me a simple pair of fingerless mitts and it's apparently like Kryptonite to Supermaisie.  I pulled off the first one just fine, even adjusting the pattern to fit my big thumbs, and thought I'd be flying through the second one...and that'd be where I was wrong.

I was dying to get something on my needles once the wool festival was put to bed.  I thought some fingerless mitts, the Sweet Fern Mitts from The Knitter's Book of Wool in particular, would be just the ticket.  I had extra yarn leftover from the Jester sweater that would be perfect and some fingerless mitts might come in handy this weekend if I was say, spinning someplace colder than Kentucky ;-).

I've lost count of how many stupid mistakes, tink backs, rip outs and drop downs this poor mitt has had to endure.  It's ridiculous...but it's knitting, so everything is indeed always fixable.  It has crossed my mind though that this may be  to be result of bad knitting karma from telling Stella she needed to rip her hat back and go down a needle size the other day.

Gosh! That's kinda risky telling Stella to redo her hat that it took her so long to even start. You may indeed be till next Spring getting those gloves to match. I hope your sweaters have pockets in the meantime. LOL

I only knit almost four different mitts to finally get a pair of fingerless mitts. Bad when you don't catch your mistakes until you've bound off. :/

Anyone that can knit sweaters and a hat like you did can do fingerless mittens. I have problems remembering which is knit and which is purl, and 3 needles would send me to the looney bin so I don't even try. At least you are in there giving it your best. Can't wait to see them finished.

I am going to rip back a hat too..the pattern must be off..or maybe it is just me. I am sure you will figure out your project long before mine is finished:)

Oh I have been eyeing a pattern for these they would be so handy for snowshoeing with my camera but since I just started to knit a couple of weeks ago and am still learning I am thinking it will take me a long time. Seeing you are having trouble I may never do it:) Good luck. B

That always seems to be the way, the simplest patterns trip us up. ;)
I love your first mitt and I'm sure the second one will soon be coming off your needles. And you are so right, it's just knitting so that's always nice.

No, no, no. I was just having a stupid moment. Moments. Fingerless mitts are a great beginner project. I promise!
