The Yellow Bird Of Happiness

It's been a rough few days here. Bitey Whitey is sick. Very sick. Something flukey as best the vets can figure and we are trying to figure out how to treat something we don't know quite what it is... Let me stress once again - whatever you've heard (probably all your life) about sheep giving up and dying on you for no reason at all is just such complete bunk.  He's hanging in there and fighting hard and hopefully I'll have some good news to share soon.

In the meantime, as I was looking out the window of the Wool House, washing out his oral syringes, I noticed some bright yellow action out on the sunflowers next to the lavender garden.  A beautiful yellow finch going to town!  I love watching the birds and bees partying on flowers I've planted.  It makes me feel like I've accomplished something good, for me and them.  And I needed that this afternoon.

As an aside, the first pictures I took were framed like this one - bird, sunflowers.  I feel awful that I haven't taken any pictures of my zinnias this year as they've been spectacular, so I moved over a bit to shoot through them and at least include some color in the shots.  Sometimes just a step or two one way or the other completely changes a photograph.  Which version do you like best?

Shooting through the flowers makes a world of difference in the photo. The added color enhances the picture. I so hope Bitey Whitey will be okay.

I'm sorry to hear you're dealing with a sick sheep again. I know he's in the best hands possible!

Although I love the fuzzy color of the zinnias, it is easier to focus on the bird in the last photos.

I hate those flukey things. Hope the little guy is feeling better soon. I like the last one, too.

Sending good thoughts for Bitey Whitey, and for everyone else, too.

I like all the goldfinches pictures, kinda like ... "Where's Waldo?"

Hope Bitey Whitey is better today, what are his symptoms? Have the vets come to any conclusion yet? Hate to try treat for something when you have no clue ..... Take care, here I thought your absence was due to you frantically sorting thru thousands of pics to get just the right ones for the calendar and making sure everyone was represented.

I so understand the reprieve from heartache that nature provides...a flash of joy here and there that takes us here and there to the world of wonder
Oh bitey whitey...how I love his name....I'm praying for him
right now we are on a death watch for my mom's new cat...FIP virus...
I don't know which is harder watching..the kitty or my mom loving it until the end

Oh, I'm so sorry about Bitey Whitey I know you are taking good care of him. Poor little thing. I know how frantic we feel when our lambs and sheep take sick. I KNOW you know this, but just in case: corn syrup, water, salt = electrolytes. :-(

I am sorry to hear about your sheep :(
I so agree with you about the false rumours about sheep :)
I hope he pulls through!!

Oh, my heavens! I'm so sorry about Bitey Whitey! I hope you get it figured out soon...did he eat something? But I'm sure he must not have or others would be ill.

Magic thoughts!!!!

Oh My !!! Prayers your way for strength to endure, and a good recovery for Bitey-Whitey.

For me, the color of the Zinnias helps me find the color of the bird (and locate it) better than the last picture with all the green where the bird seems to be more camouflaged.

A goldfinch is a sign of good luck and wards off evil. May all good graces heavensent come your way.

Bitey wont's just give up. He lives in too happy and beautiful of a place for that. Just look at all that lovely zinnia color. Even the finch is flipping for joy.

I'm so sorry to hear about Bitey, we'll be sending you some good healing, donkey vibes.

I like the pictures with the zinnias in them, they really add some color and draw the eye to the lovely bird.

I agree, the zinnias help frame the goldfinch and help you see him right away.

BW is made of stern stuff and the attentive TLC he's getting will ensure he has the best support possible while he deals with whatever is going on. Every hour he's not failing is time spent trying to get better.

Beautiful pictures! I love the feeling I get when I see the bees and butterflies enjoying the flowers I've planted this year. Makes me feel so good. Best wishes to you & Bitey Whitey!

Meanwhile, I am sending him a big hug and lots of love!

I hope Bitey makes it.

And I like the zinnias included shots. Makes you more aware of how the shooter saw it.

We are so very sorry to hear about Bitey Whitey. My kitten Piper and I read your blog every day and always love the antics. I went to the post about Bitey, his red nose, and his watermelon eating and it made me smile. I'm hoping soon the memories of Bitey Whitey will make you smile also. Take care. Jane and Piper
