What The What?!?

"They cut off all my hair!"

The gratuitous "before" shot.

Hershey has had a lot of wool.  It's been an unusually cool summer, so up to this point I didn't feel like he was terribly stressed and thought he could hold out for the fall shearing.  The other night though, when I was playing Chase Me with the boys and he didn't want to run and jump as much as the others, I decided he was headed to buzz cut city.

Chase Me is a great game.  Similar to racing around with Hank when the weather turns cool, you just gotta get 'em started and the next thing you know they are boing boing boing-ing all over, racing back and forth, running into each other, Daniel can jump over the top of any of them, Bitey Whitey had a wipe out the other night and ended up with green knees...  Good times :-).

"Oh, man, that's one sweet mullet!"

"What's a mullet?"

"Blossom said I was cute!  She really did!"

"Dude, you look ridiculous."

Don't listen to them Hershey.  I think you're very handsome!  They're just mad they didn't get a haircut and now you are going to be able to run just as fast as they do ;-).

And don't worry boys.  Bill will be here in another week or so.

YOU just couldn't wait to get your hands on that WOOL! ;-)

I have several March lambs that could probably use a good haircut right now. Not to mention some of the goats could use a haircut again, and I still have bags and bags of wool to take to the mill.

Oh my god. Those are my favorite photos ever. What a fantastic group of boys. I am so in love with my sweet ram lamb. I want a whole group like this! But, tell me, before I have to learn it the hard way...am I suppose to get him sheared NOW? In August?

Oh Hersey you do look handsome (chuckle). He does shine!

We shear the long wools twice a year. If you leave them go a whole year between shearings, they tend to get felted up and so long that they aren't fun to work with and many times are ruined. Now, that being said, some people really like the super long curls, so it's a bit of a conundrum. I mostly go with the comfort of the animal and last year, when it was sooo hot, I sheared everyone again in like June/July and tossed that shearing as it was too short to work with. So...probably need to find someone smarter than me to ask.

Ok then, thanks! That's exactly what I was confused about. We're still pretty cool here this summer, but if we do hit a hot spell, I'll break out the shears. Um, did I say break out? I meant BUY. :)

Oh my gosh, I LOVE THE MULLET. He is quite the handsome sheep!

He was made for a mullet - or vice versa. Beautiful sheep.

Hershey's face is so handsome !! He wears that hairstyle better than Tim. Nekkidness becomes him. Glad you made him comfy. Hope you saved his baby fleece. :-)

I think he looks very debonair (ahem).

Not a mullet but rather a BAD TOUPE.

Thanks Sara for sharing the pictures! :))

Pretty colour of fleece from that handsome boy. I love seeing the way sun bleached tips add interesting depth to dark fleeces.

The hair on the top of the head just cracked me up!

Such a beautiful color of wool! He HAS to feel better!!

Best haircut ever. I think he looks rather handsome with the contrast of his beautifully-coloured wooly mop and his dark under colour. Wouldn't mind spinnin' some of that!

Oh, boy, if he looks funny! In a good way, of course! :-).

How do you plan on using his fleece?

I read somewhere that sheep wool makes nice pillows. Is this true? Rest your head on a Hershey pillow, munching on a bag of Hershey chocolates. Oh, yes!

You would want a densely crimped fleece to stuff a pillow. That would be Ewen McTeagle or Lila. Hershey would make a very flat, unlofty pillow...but will make a really soft pretty scarf/hat/mitten combo I'm thinking :-D.

The mullet is bound to start a trend you know. Especially if they ladies are offering favorable comments.

Blossom and Hershey sittin' in a tree....B-A-A-A-I-N-G. He is now the Cool Kid in the group that all the young girls will swoon over. Good shearing job - Did you do him standing up or sitting on his butt? I'm sure he will be way happier without that wool and now you have some fiber to work with! Poor crazysheeplady - so bored you have to go to the barn and strip a sheep so you have something to do :-) hahahahaha

Standing up! I'm too slow to sit one down :-/. Yeah, I was running out of fiber haha :-D.
