Tough Girls

Poor Maisie's had a rough weekend. She's been very sick and this morning things looked very bad. And then just like that, her fever broke and her tummy felt better and she was finally able to get to sleep and did so for much of the day and now she and Betsy are getting into all sorts of trouble in the kitchen and making me cautiously hopeful and comfortable enough to get to the computer.

"Well, what did you expect?"

One thing I hate to hear - and hear it over and over - is "sheep will just give up and die on you". I've never found that to be true. Renny would know ;-).

Sending happy thoughts Maizie's way. She sounds like a fighter. And that in and of itself is often all it takes.

I've never known sheep to just give up. I think it seems that way sometimes because their more subtle signs of illness often go unnoticed (they're a bit like donkeys that way)and they don't get treated soon enough to make a difference. With the care she is getting from you, that won't happen. Hang in there.

Oh Thank God, your quietness today had me worried. All paws still crossed. Wow, what a great picture of Renny!

Oh dear.......

We all over at the Sisterhood of the Goat have been following Maise's progress and oohing and ahhing over her sweet little face.

Surely Maise will be well and fine for she is a Special Goat. No small task bringing joy to so many goat sisters........

Blessings to the widdle wamb we already love so much.........

May we be so bold as to humbly request a photo....?

And please, do pop over to Facebook's Sisterhood of the Goat if you have a moment. Everyone would love to hear about Maise.

Much love and healing energy from a whole lot of people...........

OK, now I can let go of my breath....I was afraid your blog "silence" was a Maisie issue....so glad to hear she is on the mend. If Renny is any proof, Maisie is in the Best Place for a Sheep!

Hate hearing that about Maisie. I was wondering why no updates. Guess, no news turned out to be good new in that she has improved. How could she give up - she's got you!!
Get well Maisie!!

So glad that Maisie is feeling better! We, too, have heard the ill-advised "sick sheep seldom survive" (one vet even told us that it was one of the few things they learned in vet school about sheep), but we have also found them to be resilient. Having an owner that truly cares does make a big difference!

You and Renny know. Sorry to hear that Miss Maisie was having a hard time. Her little body kicked in and hopefully she will improve quickly...the little fighter! Please give her a hug for me.

Me too. I was worried that something was amiss. Glad she's better. Renny knows all about it. She and Maisie are fighters.

Poor little lambie! Glad she is on the mend. You are her guardian angel, for sure.
Love the photos of Renny- she's an excellent example of how tough and resilient a sheep can be.

Prayers your way for a turnaround that stays. You both need a long nap. Any raw goats milk available yet?

Any idea what caused fever? Good you are keeping her in the house and close by so you catch problems at the beginning. Hopefully she doesn't learn acting tricks from this so she won't hear that 4 letter word ..... BARN. Take care of Maisie and yourself.

Why is it that people feel they need to drop these dire statements on one? It's hard enough getting through these illnesses without the voices of doom! Glad little Maisie is on the mend. It would be so much easier if they could just tell us what's wrong, wouldn't it?

That's good news. Sending positive thoughts for you both.

Sorry to hear Maisie was sick. I was hoping you were just quiet because you were busy doing something fun. So good to hear that she's making some improvements now. Sheep don't just "give up and die" (except rarely when they are old and pining for a long-time companion)and that's usually said by people who don't know diddly about sheep, so ignore them and keep caring for Maisie. Like you said, look at Renny. You are giving all the help that can be given.

So glad to hear that dear sweet Maisie is improving. Hope to see happy pictures of her soon. May she be imbued with the spirit of Renny (and all other fighters).

Great picture of Renny by the way. You'd never know what rough shape she was in from looking at that. Awesome girl!!

Hugs and good thoughts to all of you.
