A Harrison County Homemaker group came out to visit the farm this past summer and, of course, brought cookies. As we talked about the sheep, wool, spinning, coming up with the ideas for all the Christmas cards...someone suggested cookies should be part of the design. Of course they should! Brilliant :-D.
Getting pencil to paper is sometimes a challenge, but after numerous re-draws in my mind (Does Hank bake the cookies? Are the sheep stealing the cookies? Maybe they should be baking for Hank? Thecrazysheeplady setting the kitchen on fire?...), the actual sketch came together pretty quickly.
Until I drew in T-Bone and Gato. And Not. Handy. And not Miss Ewenice this year. No Marcel...
Wow.
And Maisie? Should I add her in? She's just a couple days old and not doing exceptionally great. Would it jinx her if I put her on? Should I go with the power of positive thinking? Am I going to let myself get attached enough to her that I'd be sorry if she wasn't included. Of course I am.
And she slept at my feet or snuggled on my lap as I painted and thus became truly a part of this year's Christmas card.
Merry Christmas Everyone!

That is great! You are very talented.
It's perfect. A hard reminder of all those you've lost this year, but perfect.
I got about half their names right before looking at the cheat sheet. Go me.
I was thrilled to see Maisie at the door! Your painting expresses such Joy, and your devoted fans feel the losses and Blessings with every stroke of your brush.
Merry Christmas to the Punkin's Patch Gang.

Dear Sara,
I came across your wonderfully inspiring blog a few months ago, fell in love with it, and have been a regular follower ever since!
Greeting from the beautiful countryside of Virginia!
Your talent is a gift we all get to share in. I'm glad you put Maisie in - she is part of the farm-ily even though she's a new member. Shed some tears for the missing ones, and hug the new one. Tell Iris she can come bake for us anytime.
PS. Love Petunia gearing up to do some cat sniffing on Comby.
The best kind of card - heartfelt. I love Mia eating the wreath.
Delightfully clever Christmas card. Cookies are a comfort food as well as a treat to show affection. You've managed to provide comfort and joy. Merry Christmas !
That is a wonderful card, and I'm praying for Maisie.

Happy Christmas you all.
Thanks for the card, Sara. Thinking of you and hoping that 2013 is a less eventful year for you and all the critters. Merry Christmas to you both.
Merry Christmas, Sara! What a beautiful card!
Hugs & cookies to all your animals!
Just a beautiful card and what a sweet photo of Maisie. I hope she grows strong and does well.
Love the card- you should illustrate children's books. Books about sheep farms. Starring orphan lambies.
Great Card!
Merry Christmas to all at Punkins Patch..and may there be lots of cookies for everyone in the New Year!
