Super (Hot) Cuts

Everyone (including me) is holding up better than I'd have guessed during all this heat. Heat is way harder on sheep than cold, for obvious reasons. If you are older and um, a little "husky"...

...you are extra miserable. Poor Woolliam. If he's too hot to go out and eat? He's too hot. So I sheared him this afternoon.

And now I'm thinking that being too hot to go out and eat might be a good thing for ole Woolly. Sadly this picture makes him look skinny.

As soon as I was done, Rebecca Boone marched over. She's the other sheep we are worried about.

"Hey, how'd you rank a special hair cut?!?"

And then everyone had to come check him out.

Recognize those batwing ears? :-).

Woolliam looks a bit sad in these pictures, but when we went out to feed tonight, he was up and at it, begging for cookies (NO!), no excessive panting and no runny nose.

I hated to throw away his fleece, but didn't think twice about it. His health life is more important. Rebecca Boone's wool is a bit longer and might be salvageable. As there is no relief in sight, I think she's probably going to end up next in line for a buzz cut.

I bet Wolliam could have given you a kiss. We need rain and cooler weather sooooo bad.

What a nice Mom you are. How many sheep do you have lining up? Sorry it's so darn hot down there.

Wow .... You did a better job than the new sheep shearer I had to hire this year, my regular shearer could not make it to CA this year so had someone that came highly recommended ... I won't recommend him to anyone .... may need to get you a plane ticket for a trip to CA. I haven't sheared since kids were in 4H. Good Job.

Wooliam’s buzzcut is a perfect salute to our men in the military. Happy Fourth of July!!!!

Don't be surprised if you see ME in line behind Rebecca Boone. This heat is killing me. I've been thinking about hard it would be to wear all that warm fleece when the temps spike they have been. Poor little sheepys.

You're a good shepherd!

Put everyone in the trailer and head up here! After being down in the States for the last few weeks and suffering in the heat, it was nice to get back to Canada and 76F temps!

Poor Wooliam. I hope that will make him feel better.
Saw all the Jacobs in the background. Would love to see a post on them sometime ~ names, what their fleece is like, etc. They sure look nice.
Stay cool!

You saved him:)

Bless you Sara!

We may make some extra funds to pay for feed with our fiber, but I doubt anyone reading this depends on it entirely for their livelihood. Better to save the sheep and have a less than stellar wool clip for the year!!!!!!

What a good shepard you are. Creature comfort/wellness comes first.
Just for future reference....that short wool will work to make felt.

Our goats are having a problem too. Thing is, they have no wool to shear off.
