Weft Faced?

I first noticed the gate spider several weeks ago. Several. Wish I'd made a note. She'd woven a web in the top section of a gate that gets a lot of use and abuse and I felt bad every time I noticed she'd had to rebuild.

One day I noticed a couple somethings (stored meals? egg sacks?) woven in a chain and a few days later a couple more.

Would this be warp or weft faced?

The chain has grown to about 20. In a web that she has to rebuild at least two or three times a week. For several weeks.

That's a dedicated weaver.

Interestingly (as frequently happens when I take pictures), if you look to the right of the chain, there is another web within the web. I can't figure out if this is hers or if she's subletting.

Maybe it's her summer kitchen ;-).

Very cool, it looks like food wraps. You would figure after respinning the web a few times she would get the hint..:-))
p.s. I did spiders last Friday and dragonflies on Saturday....

It must be prime spider real-estate! It looks as if she catches a lot of food so maybe it is worth re-spinning. Looks weft-faced to me too! :)

Spiders always amaze me. We live in harmony as long as they stay where I need them in the house, otherwise they are scooped up and shown the door. ;) Anything that catches flies, mosquitoes, and any other insect that annoys me is good in my book.

Times are tough, maybe she had to rent a room to help make ends meet? *giggle* :)

I think that's going to be a lot of spider babies.

I wish I could answer your question. I always feel badly when I blunder through one of their webs. I admire spiders and always leave them be. It's a battle sometimes as my DW comes from a family in which all bugs have to be eradicated. We manage though, sometimes I surreptitiously move one out the door.

We had a spider a few years back weave a big web outside our kitchen door to catch the bugs drawn to the light. But everyday we'd walk through it. Finally she wove the web with a head-shaped hump so we could pass and she didn't have to rebuild. I was very impressed.

I double "biggified" (didn't know I could do it before) and the inside web looked CG. Very cool. You definitely have an eye for detail.

Flowerweaver just taught me something about spiders...they think and can arrange things to suit themselves.
