Jester's Sweater

I knew this wasn't going to be an easy "take a picture with one of your favorite sheep" shoot.  While I know that Jester likes me, he was several years old when we got him and, like most of our Jacobs, has never become very chummy.  Oh, he's gotten to where he'll come up and quickly grab a cookie from you, but let's just say Hug a Sheep Day is not one of his favorite holidays ;-).

We trapped him in the end of the barn and then took the end gate down and built Amy an outside fence so she could get as close to us as she could, but not so close that it would upset him.  I bribed him with cookies and was able to get my hands on him a couple of times.  I love how every time I have to do that - for eye checks, deworming, feet trimming... he always immediately looks up at me.  He's the only sheep we have that does that.  I was hoping Amy could capture that and she did :-).

The sweater turned out great.  Everything blocked out just the way I'd hoped - lots of worry for nothing.  Gotta love wool.

Isn't he cute?  I tried to pick color patterns that reflected his special wide sweeping "jester hat" horns.

And I used a duplicate stitch to add a touch of dark gray to the big areas of light gray.  Fun and easy to do.

Annabelly, getting a closer look at her neckline.  The top two inches of the sweater are actually Annabelly, covering where I ran out of white Jester yarn.  She doesn't have a great fleece and I'd probably not really be interested in making a strictly Annabelly item, but I'm thrilled she's at least a part of something special.  She's a funny sheep and our very first lamb years ago.  She deserves to be included :-).

Thank you Jester.  I love your sweater :-).

Thank you Amy.  I love your pictures :-).

Field shots coming tomorrow, aka the Graham Lamb show.  Of course.  Sigh.

I read one of your posts a couple days ago about this sweater and I have to admit, I didn't understand a word of it. All I know about knitting is that it involves yarn and long, pointy needles. However, I can appreciate a really gorgeous, beautifully made sweater when I see one. It is beautiful.

Thanks for today's second post. The photos are beautiful, the sweater is incredible, and you finished it "in time."

Golly, in the picture of you with Annabelly , the sweater kinda blends in with the flock. All you need is some hay sprinkles and a good "baa" ;-)
That is a seriously awesome sweater. You've done Jester and Annabelly proud.

Gorgeous sweater. Isn't it fun to know who you're wearing? I just finished a sweater from 2 of my ewes (sisters Eartha and Etta, who were the first brown lambs I had born here).

Loved your description of Jester and your other Jacobs. Even our friendly Jacobs, aren't 'Graham lamb' friendly! They want their scratches when they want them and not when it is necessarily convenient for me ;) The photos are great and your sweater is absolutely lovely!!!

Everything about this sweater is breathtaking! Your handspun yarn, the design, the handsome guy who provided the wool and the lovely lady wearing it!
What an inspiration. Absolutely beautiful.

You did capture the sweep of Jester's horns in the pattern- that looks cool! That sweater looks really soft.
I like the way Jester's markings around his mouth make him look like he's smiling.

Sara, you look great, and Jester actually looks very proud...do you think he knows it's him in the sweater? Great accomplishment, and something you will treasure always.Well done!

Well done. This was not a "novice" project and it turned out to be gorgeous. How fun to have a portable sheep hug, now you don't even have to walk out to the barn to get one!
I especially like the jester hat horns in the pattern.

You look gorgeous in that sweater...it suits your colouring very well. I would love to knit a sweater out of our sheep's wool someday :-)

Wow, Sara you are my hero, love the sweater, I am still trying to end up with a scarf that has same number of stitches on each row. Great job of making a sweater from your own wool, start to finish.

What a great post! Excellent job on the sweater, fantastic photos, lovely sheep (and Hank!). It's expecially meaningful since you're wearing Jester's wool - and there he is! Be proud of yourself - that's a great accomplishment.
