Sunday Stills - Happy New Year

Post your favorite photo from 2011 and your photographic hopes for 2012.

Before I pick a favorite...

The right place at the right time.

The light was perfect. It would have been hard to screw this shot up.

A strong personal favorite. This picture tells a good story and always makes me laugh. I like the composition, the aperture setting and, of course, the subject.

I don't find winter bleak. I find it beautiful. I love the contrast of hints of color on white, to see the trees, the tails blowing in the wind.

A highlight of the past year, a macro lens. I am really enjoying learning to use it and I like it not only for close up shots, but also used it for the next picture of Miss Ewenice.

Super crisp focus on her face with an aperture setting of f/2.8 so everything else blurs out like a dream.

I don't necessarily think this is a great picture, but I do like the light and I know if I didn't include at least one Lila shot... ;-)

I had this picture pulled for the calendar, but ended up replacing it with the bees. A valid choice, but I love, love, love the color, light and focus of this.

Which one is my favorite?

I can't get past the color and drama of this picture.

So what are my photographic hopes for the new year? Learn, learn, learn. I would like to take a photography class. I also didn't do a great job organizing pictures this year and would like to work on that as well.

I can "feel" your favorite picture, if that makes sense. That feeling that something is impending. I am usually too busy scurrying to check all the livestock as the clouds build to reflect on the beauty but there is something special about that kind of moment.

I love them all. If I were the one who had to choose though I think I'd pick St. Tim. It is just so genuine. The perfect capture.

Not to mention...a rare sighting!

I love the shot of Ewenice and can appreciate the impact light has on the quality of your pictures! Totally impossible to pick one shot out of an entire year.

Every one of those shots was amazing. Love sweet little Lila! You're blog is one of my favorites not only for the sheep but also because the photos are so good. I just got a nice digital camera for Christmas/Birthday and hope to really learn how to use it in 2012. If I can maybe my blog pics will look as good as yours.

All of your choices would have valid reasons for being a favorite.
I can certainly appreciate your chosen photo for it’s composition, subject matter, color, the way the tree line cups the bulging clouds, and the feeling of pending excitement from the heavens.

thanks for including Lila, she makes my heart melt :-)

They'e all so good I can't pick a favorite. The menace of the clouds over the pastoral green fields with the peaefully grazing horses is certainly a powerful picture.

And I agree with New Year Photography resolutions (lol) - I need to take time out to cleanse my photography palate and really absorb the learning process...

I don't know how you'd ever pick. They are all awesome in their own way. I love all the portraits - you captured the personalities so well. And the others with focus vs. fuzz - lovely. I have to agree the sky-with-horses is worthy of top honors.
Can't wait to see all the photos coming this year!

The four horses in the snow is really beautiful.I think it's my favorite. So is the spider. Really nice shot.
I love photography. It's reality.. but it's about choices and light. It's an art form that depends on the composition of light and dark, color and form... and really seeing what you look at.
You do it well. Keep learning and keep that camera with you at all times.
