The Best Part Of The End Of Summer

Well, besides being able to put the words "end of" and "summer" together.

I like everything about Hay Day. From the reliable, professional, genuinely nice guys that bring it and the funny stories they tell on each other as they stack it in the loft for us...

After watching them maneuver that huge truck and trailer into the tiny aisleway of our barn...

The way the barn smells full of fresh hay...

Knowing you are ready for cold weather (or for having to start feeding hay now because the grass is all brown and crispy :-/).

The majority of this load is Bermuda grass. Lewis asked if I'd like to try some a couple years ago and I'm glad I did. Everybody likes it, horses and sheep. It's soft and easy to handle, smells good, doesn't get easily stuck in the wool the way alfalfa does.

And the loft is full :-).

Congratulations! We loaded in 300 bales of bermuda hay a few weeks ago but pick it up in the field ourselves, load it in & then collapse until someone else calls to say they are baling. And you are SO right about the lovely smell, one that lasts well into the winter.

I can only imagine the smell, and am glad you'll have what you need when those cold winter winds blow! burrrr..... :-))

Yay! The Very Best Day of Summer is the day the hay delivery arrives. We thought we were ready, but if we have to start feeding soon (and it certainly looks like it), we're going to need more hay. Again. :(

I looked at the stack of hay and wondered, ”where is Little Boy Blue”?

I LOVE the smell of fresh hay stacked in the barn. Of course it would be even MORE wonderful if someone else delivered and stacked the hay.

Congrats on being ready for the change of seasons!

Interesting bit about the Bermuda grass!

Always a good feeling to have the hay in...wish you could have some of our rain!

The hay looks great. I still need 250 more bales. Storing some for Barb, so the barn will be packed. We have a higher loft above the second floor but don't ever use it. I'll bet we could store over 1500 bales. Yes indeedy, it smells divine! Our grass is still green.

End of summer are cuss words around here. Of course, my summer is only a couple months long so I'm never ready for it to end. Wish I had a barn full of hay. Too cool!!

I love the smell of a barn full of freshly stacked hay. They should turn that smell into an air freshener ;)

Yeah, like Nancy said; Hay Day would be GREAT if someone else picked it up, delivered it, and stacked it in the barn for us! We still need a few more tons; hoping for third cutting orchard grass from a local guy. We're on his list; just need his harvest to be big enough to FILL the list's orders....

I agree, there is nothing better than the smell of hay in a barn. And there is no better feeling than knowing that you have enough to last you through the winter.

I like the sound of 'end of summer' too, only it's far from over down here. Bermuda is a common lawn grass down in Texas. It's soft and pretty but the rhizomes creep into everything, making it impossible to remove. I suppose it's handy that my number one garden weed is Finley's favorite food! (But I kind of suspect that's how it got there, through feeding the sheep!)
