Shearing Day

Liddy's a big girl now :'-(.  Each year it gets harder and harder to let them grow up.  As long as they're still fuzzy, they're still babies to me.  Remember the story of Kate not thinking Liddy was a sheep? Interestingly, now that she's shorn, Kate doesn't think she's a baby anymore either.

She was the best behaved lambie ever.  This was no surprise.  Honestly, she's been the best little lambie all her life.  Each lamb is different, just like kids, and Liddy's super power has always been being sweet and no trouble.

I didn't get very many good pictures this year, but here are a few.

Daniel "getting his ears lowered".

Blossom/Baba looking on and Petunia gearing up for battle.  She was actually on her best behavior this year.  Not exactly Liddy Good, but definitely not Petunia Bad.  She takes real offense to being sheared.  Bill might finally have her trained ;-).

Speaking of trained...  Doesn't it look like darling Maisie is smiling?

"See, I'm a good girl.  Don't believe all those stories you hear about me."

"Lean over here a bit more so I can bite your face off!"

"Oops, I didn't mean to say that out loud."

Stella kept us all straight and thankfully remembered Renny's sheet.  I'd forgotten, and while Renny could probably not care less, I'd have been sad to have forgotten.  Thanks, Stella!

Being up to your elbows in Murphy's fleece is not a bad place to be :-).

Bill shearing PPPP and Dustin shearing Baaxter.  Dustin is Bill's nephew.  Their family has been shearing for generations.  Bill has been shearing for 41 years now, Dustin for 15.  Their dad/grandfather shore for 61 year.  Yep, they know what they're doing for sure and we sure appreciate the great care they take with our sheep!

Update from the Iknitarod Trail - we made it under the Burled Arch before the Red Lantern was extinguished :-).  Pictures coming.

Lamb Camp is in full swing :-D.   Pictures coming!

Liddy looks all grown up! I too love Murphy's fleese. My Elwood's fleece looks very similar.

Loved the pictures, and the poor backs on those two men! I don't know how they do it!

I'm drooling over the fleeces. OMG! Not that I need more, but they look so good. Glad the sheep were co-operative this year. Maybe some of the young ones are rubbing off on the older ones, or they are just growing up. :) Helen

My little one's first shearing is just a few weeks away.
Hope my shearer is as professional as Bill and Dustin.

The looks on Maisie's face . . . bless her heart, she is so sweet!

I am so impressed at the speed with which they can shear a sheep. Not only that, they do a beautiful job. Look at all those sweet babies! What's the temperature down there, now that their coats are off? 28 degrees here tonight.

I really enjoyed watching Liddy being sheared. My husband even peeked over to see what was happening. The fleece is so perfectly beautiful!

Liddy's fleece looks like it's a good one!

It's been in the upper 70's...until they were shorn. Now we have 3 cool days - highs in the upper 40's and lows in the lower 30's. I got a few more bales of the "old" hay that they loved so they'd have plenty in their tummies to stay warm. Good morale booster :-).

Oh, also, they are shearing our sheep a bit slower than "normal". They can actually go much faster!

Your first shearing :-). I hope they are good too!

Liddy seemed quite interested in the whole process. Your shearer has gentle hands.

Beautiful Beautiful fleece! Love the beautiful grey! Love your sheep. My fingers just itch to get into it!

Liddy seems more curious than anything, although I swear there was a look at you behind the camera that said, "Mom? Why is this happening to me?"

How is Hershey's fleece? And Casper Belly's? Anyone else I might like? Looks like a trip to KY is in my near future.

Oh, Murphy- I love me a luscious grey fleece!

Those two envelopes- do you give your shearers *extra* just for the Challenge that is Crazy Maisie?

I bet Liddy's fleece is sweet and soft like her. I know you claim the baby fleeces for yourself. If you make a Liddy sweater for yourself, Liddy will be even more absolutely certain You Are Her Mummy, Sigh- I remember the photos of her curled up on Auntie Reg's lap, in church. Sniff.

This makes me want to go to the farm down the road - they have some lambs for sale. If only I was 25 years younger. They are so adorable and I agree he has gentle and patient hands. Wonderful post!

That was stellar and good Stella for the green Renny sheet! Maisie looks like she might take a bite out of Bill's 'fleece', er whiskers :) Liddy is just wonderful. Funny re the change in Kate. The fleece lust is upon me...........argh

I'm so happy Renny had you. I don't think she would have made it otherwise. And here she...one of the flock and proud of it!

Renny is an amazing sheep, and you are a shepherdess!

Those are actually name tags - one for inside the bag and one pinned to the outside. The shearers DO get extra though ;-D.

The fleeces look beautiful and the sheep are in good shape under all that wool! I bet you're already planning Liddy as your Tour de Fleece and Iknitarod project! Daniel has gotten so pale! Hi to Stella!

I love Murphy's wool the best1 Think I'm turning into a lover of creams, greys and browns. Can I, dare I, give up my beloved bright colours for a project? I'm nearly at the end of a long, bright granny afghan project... time for a change!
