Black Jack (21)

Finally, the day 20's been looking forward to - his first ride on his "pony" Black Jack.

The best place to ride on a hot afternoon is the cool(ish) woods. 20's Auntie Reg and Uncle John live near the beautiful Lower Howard's Creek Nature and Heritage Preserve. Perfect!

Wearing his safety helmet and new paddock boots - off they go.

They rode out past the barn.

Along a very interesting stone wall.

Down the lane, past some more cool stone walls.

All the way out to the river overlook. Black Jack didn't want to get too close to the edge so you'll have to peek through the trees to see the Kentucky River.

And then back home.

Afterwards he and Black Jack shared a bowl of cool water and an icy Ale 8 (the famous local beverage - a mild ginger ale), some carrots and River Rat Beer Cheese (another famous local product).

There were SO MANY great name choices for the rocking sheep. I finally decided to let everyone vote and Black Jack (21) it is. Very clever, Lori.

From the list of comments at the original post, Random.org picked Far Side of Fifty as the random winner. Drop me an email with your mailing address and I'll get your prize right out!

So glad 20 got to go for a lovely ride on Black Jack and I see he is properly attired with his boots and helmet ......... Love the photos of the old stone walls, if only walls could talk, bet there is some history to those stone walls. Thanks for sharing the photos.

oh my goodness, they are twice as cute together! They'd make great stars of a children's book.

Looks like you’ve got a couple of Aces with
20 and Black Jack ( and I’m not talking’ cards, either) !!!

I think Black Jack needs wheels...I mean some kind of discarded little red wagon wheels or something. It sure would be easier to get around, eh?

Sweet ride, but Black Jack looks a bit dwarfed by 20 - Black Jack must have one strong back. :)

I'm glad 20 was willing to share the treats when they got back.

By the way, I love that stone wall.

So is 20 going to be in 4H or Pony Club with Black Jack? Or just enjoy riding without the rigors of showing? What a great team they make and what a fun place to ride. I'm loving that stone wall! Not a wall you can spend time sitting on, though :-(

Looking forward to the further adventures of 20 and BJ !

Love the country lanes, those incredible rock fences and the second photo from the top ~ looks like 20 and his steed, Black Jack (cool name!), could ride forever.
