Oh Come ON!

I stepped off the back porch this afternoon and heard rustling under the spirea bush.

I knew what it was.

Stupid Adventure Chickens. Who have their own big field with grass and straw and hay and dropped horse feed and scratch grains and must be some bugs too because they all go racing around like it's Christmas out there and don't come home until dark.

"What are you doing under there?"

"Who me?"

"Um, nothing."

"Just looking for some bugs."

"There weren't any, so you don't need to look."

"I'm headed back up to the barn."

"See you later."

"Dark, right?"

Oh, come ON! Seriously?!? You laid an egg under a bush 100 yards from the barn?

We could spend a lot of time EVERY. DAY. looking for eggs. In fact, we love it when the neighbor girls come down and search for us. The Stupid Adventure Chickens have a set of really nice laying boxes in their coop, but no. They hide eggs in the sheep stalls, the horse stalls, the hay stacks (multiple hay stacks), up in the loft, tucked in between straw bales, in the manure spreader, under the mowers, behind the barn refrigerator, up on the counter and now we are supposed to go look under every bush in the yard?!?

Same thing happens here. Although sometimes we don't find them until they break and start smelling. Not good.

Many times I have wished I could get my hands on farm fresh eggs. On the other hand....I always know where to find my eggs: right in the refrigerator!!!

Well if you would just stop taking them they wouldn't have to hide them. Duh.

hmm maybe i don't want to have free range chickens.....i don't like egg hunting lol

Our free-ranging hens love to lay eggs in their nest boxes. Maybe the feng shui of your coop is off?

Hahahaha! Never a dull moment with those chickens' presents (and presence) all over the farm. Do you think it's edible?

Perhaps they are encouraging you to get out and excerise or perhaps they think its a great idea to have an Easter Egg Hunt at your farm this year? I am just trying to help the "chicks" out......

Your pictures and captions never fail to bring a smile to my face :-D

Do you use glass eggs in the coop?
I have an old cue ball that works well...and golf balls are helpful too. An old poultry farmer told me that the chickens need to see that their eggs are safe ...so leaving a few glass eggs untouched-- gives them the idea that they are. Apparently, if they notice their eggs missing from day to day...they decide it isn't "safe" and go exploring to find other suitable places to lay their eggs..

Silly chickens...what is their problem anyhow :-)

Incredibly funny chickens you have.

Very funny! Our chickens are very creative where they lay but at least they keep them in the barn!
