Cat-ouflage

Sadly these are not actually fall leaves, but greenhouse grape leaves decimated by an unbelievable scourge of Japanese beetles this year.  Good camouflage for Comby though on a rainy morning :-).

Japanese beetles are definitely a scourge.
I spent years working on them in our yard (My mother's roses were the attraction).

When I was a teenager, I figured out that a bucket with an inch of water in it and some dish soap was an effective way to gather them ... shaking the rose bloom over the bucket, they would fall in. Their defensive move when something is coming after them is to 'drop to the ground' and scurry for cover. So they easily drop into the bucket. Adding a little mouthwash (alcohol) to the bucket kills them faster. Give it a few minutes sitting in the sun and they are 'done' !

We also used the milky spore deterrent in the yard and rosebed. It took some time, but it has made a difference. Also, neighbors with attractive plants moved or gave up, so there was a lot less food sources around.

looking forward to your next puzzle :) ;)

I'm using the soapy water method twice a day. They are going after my cotton pretty hard :-(. I'll look into the milky spore deterrent. Hoping it's organic and not harmful to bees...

How about a Comby puzzle? I thought about it last night, but thought it might be hard with so many close colors throughout. We'll find out :-).

Your chickens should LOVE to eat those Japanese beetles! Collect some in a can and offer, and you will see what I mean. Then you can get Kate to bring them over to where they are needed! Good dog, Kate!!

Wow, I hate beetle bugs. Hope they don't get your cotton :-/ I am still having a time controlling those fuzzy horned munchers - they stripped my current bushes to sticks. I think you have a "bigger" problem...

They are a scourge, indeed. I've started with the milky spore and do the soapy water, too, but it's almost impossible to keep up with them. What an excellent camouflage!

Thank Heavens we don't have those nasty things here!! I hope they never make it!

In spite of the scourge, that is a lovely, lovely painting of a photo!
