Sunday Stills - Fabrics

Sounds a bit silly but it will be a fun challenge, not only are we looking for fabrics but use some macro skills and show the texture of some fabrics as well… :-)

Not silly at all!  Fun challenge, Ed :-).

The following pieced quilts were made by my grandmother.  This crocheted afghan...we don't know and I'd love to.  It's a very intricate pattern, beautiful colors and Not. Small.  Someone put an amazing amount of work into it many years ago.  Any crochet folks recognize the pattern?  It looks to me like stitches on top of stitches.

The teddy bear toes belong to my first teddy bear.  She's wearing an acrylic, machine knit sweater.  What?!?  That needs to be fixed and just got bumped up on my to-do list.  Yeesh...

So we have warm wool quilts all over the house.  They were made from scrap material and old worn out or outgrown garments.  My mother can pick out several she recognizes.

They have soft flannel backs and I believe there are old wool blankets inside.

Frequently found with the requisite cat indention ;-).

If I had to guess I'd say this is the oldest one.  The black is a pretty velvet and I'd love to know what the faded purple came from.

You have a very beautiful collection of quilts. My Mom would line hers with flannel too.

Nothing better than old family things to make your house homey.

Beautiful close ups.

Your first Teddy's feet look better than my first Teddy. Mine had to retire to my hope chest because he's not fit for visitors anymore. He has trouble keeping his head on.

Those quilts are the original in reuse, recycle pratice from the days when you had to save everything you had and make do. No Walmart to run to when you needed a new blanket. My Grandmother and her sister were great quiltmakers, unfortunately my quilts wore out. My aunt made quilts out of old levis and clothes with flour feed sacks. We are too much of a disposable society now.

The touch, the feel, the fabric of your life is not just cotton, but wool, and manmade to create life long memories to warm your heart. Enjoy!

Great pics and lovely quilts. It's particularly nice that they are family quilts. And using a blanket as batting in a quilt - brilliant!!

Family quilts are family treasures! All of my Grandmother's quilts that she made have that thread in the middle of each piece of material as well. Mom was born in 1931 - still with us and when she visits, I make sure to pull out her Mom's old quilts. She'll point out the various pieces of material that had been her old summer dress, her Dad's overalls, an old blanket that belonged to HER Grandmother and her stories go on!! I've got to record her stories the next time up!! LOVE-LOVE-LOVE family quilts!

Lovely collection. It's great that old fabrics can be reused like that. Both useful and pretty.

Oh so pretty all your quilts are beautiful. That afghan could be some kind of double thread pattern..to me it looks very much like a fishtail braid..but I don't know that much about old patterns..I hope someone else knows!
For shame for shame..in your spare time you need to make your bear something special:)
