Maisie's Angels (And A Giveaway)

For some reason Maisie was just not able to fully process the lamb milk replacer.  And while it was keeping her alive in the beginning, between her rapidly declining digestion, bone and joint compromise, hair falling out and no telling what else going on we couldn't even see, I would be very surprised if Maisie was still with us if Natalie and Lou hadn't hooked us up with the kind folks at Happy Goat Hills Farm.

The goats originally started as a 4-H project for son Jacob but have now become a full family project, complete with breeding, milking, selling offspring (just didn't seem right to say "selling kids" ;-), soap making...and just plain enjoyment.

Might there be some cookies in those pockets?

Ladies in waiting.  Knowing full well there are cookies in the milking parlor :-).

"Hey!  Let me in!  I want some cookies too!"

I think this was the doe they let come in at the end even though she isn't milking yet.  I think everyone got a cookie before it was all over.  Sound familiar?  Our kind of people :-).

This is Peaches on the milking stand.

But Bambi has decided she doesn't want to go up on the stand anymore, so Steve kindly milks her on the floor.

And then cuts up an apple for her afterwards.

The white board, with upcoming due dates.

I can't take your picture if you keep sticking your nose up to my camera lens, silly baby.

So pretty.

And you two, too.

It's obvious their animals don't like them much, eh ;-).

Nice farm, nice goats, nice people.  Thanks for including Maisie in your big, happy family!

Besides saving sick lambies, goat milk makes wonderful soap.  Happy Goat Hills Farm has several new flavors curing, but have really nice lavender and lilac soaps ready now and have shared a few bars.  Let's give a big shout out of thanks to Bambi, Peaches, Jennifer, Steve and Jacob!

If you are unable to leave a comment, drop me an email (thecrazysheeplady AT gmail DOT com) and I'll include you and on Wednesday we'll have Maisie draw for a couple winners :-D.

Now those are real goat people, neither rain nor snow will keep them from their scheduled milkings. So glad you found them for Maisie, you can really see her gaining weight and improving on their milk.

I have enjoyed your blog for several years now and seldom leave comments. But I am sighing such a sigh of relief I had to say how happy I am that this post was about the dear goats that have saved Maisie's life. The way it began scared me;)

Thanks too for sharing your stories. They bring smiles and tears and most of all joy.

The goats are cute and the snow is scenic, but the layers of clothing on the people is making me shiver to look at.

I'm a regular lurker/reader and I will very honest and admit that your giveaway has coaxed me out of hiding to leave a comment.

I really enjoy you blog, who can resist all that fuzzy cuteness that is Maisie. I am so glad you were able to find a meal replacement that agrees with her. Yay to goatsmilk!

Oh what fun people! Oh and the goats seem so sweet. Farmers with cookies in their pockets are my kind of people. The giveaway seems so exciting too.

As always - love your picture stories! Yeahhhhh HAPPY GOAT HILLS FARM!! Such good people who love their animals, care for them and other mammals like Maisie!!
My aunt couldn't take my grandma's milk or their cow's milk, so they also had to go down the road and Aunt Charlotte was on goat milk for her first year of life.
Think I missed out on something--- please put my name in the pot for what ever Maisie will draw out!!

The respect and kindness at Happy Goat Hill Farm for their animals is such a gift to the Universe. Thank you, Sara, for sharing their world.

I have another request that you add to the special prints list; the little brown goat (just below the nosy wee black goat)~ that is an art print. The angle, the lighting, the colors = perfect. And her eye brings you right into the scene.

A great big thank you to these lovely goat shepherds. They are wonderful partners in Maisie's success. lvbj

What are a greyhound and a milk goat? Two things on my wish list.

I am so looking forward to getting milk from my 2 goats. It looks like it will be next year, since neither is showing any signs of being pregnant (frown). So glad that you found your angels and that goat milk is working for Maisie!

Yes, the start of this post really had me scared too. I'm glad it was such happy news, but I think you need to keep the soap for yourself and have a long, hot soak with it-you need a bit of pampering yourself after all this!

Christine said...

I love Nubians! It would be just like our Holly goat to step in and save a baby. :)

C-ingspots said...

So glad your goat is doing better! And your pictures are just wonderful...the little goats are adorable!! I've always wanted a goat. I'd get a Nubian as a kid and raise him like a pet. So cute!!
I have used goat soap, it's super creamy and luxurious.

Love, love your bottle lambs! We have raised several also. The first one lived inside with a diaper and went to school with me! She still doesn't believe she is a sheep at 8.

So, when did you say you were adding goats? You did. I'm sure that you did. I didn't dream it, did I?

Sheepmom said...

Such happy goats! The little black kid with her nose to the camera is right off the cute-o-meter. No wonder Maisie is doing so well - the milk is full of good vibes as well as nutrition. You might want to buy extra and stash it in the freezer. You never know when a lamb will come your way and you may need it desperately. Seems like good insurance. Do the goat folks have a blog? They should.

Sandra said...

First Visit to your site. Love the goats. My oldest daughter loves Nubians.

HI Sara, loved the recent pics and video of Maisie looking healthy and lively, running around outside. Keep hearing good things about goats milk soap, but have never tried it, so please enter me in the giveaway. Thanks, Hannah

A big thank you, from a city girl, for your lambs and sheep. I check your site every single day and soak up the sweetness and love from your blog. Since I have always had a special love for goats, this post just adds to the love. Love that Maisie looks so much better, and that the goats were a part of that.
Hug Blossom for me too.

(my mother used to raise Nubian's)...love that photo of Peaches on the stand...(peaches and cream!)

I love reading your Maisie (and other) stories. I usually share with my children, but not today. They want sheep, and goats, and everyone else, but I'm not ready for that commitment. And since we were at 4-H last night... Well, lets just say it would be a long and painful battle. What wonderful goats! Maybe I'll lay down the no more animals law, and then let them read it!

We had pet dairy goats when my boys were young.. all females named after hockey players! They were the sweetest, most personable animals ever. Always ready with a greeting and definitely treat loving.

A few years back, a friend gifted me a set of your notecards and I've been following your blog ever since. I start each day looking for stories of mischief-making by the critters at Equinox Farm! I am a fellow fiber-groupie; my weaving has taken a back seat for now while I catch up on my quilting, but I will return.
Please enter me in your drawing. I tried to find Happy Goat Hills Farm on the web, but no luck. Do they have a site where they sell their soap......just in case I dont win?

Oh, I just had to put in my 2 cents and join the chorus. Enjoyed seeing the goat farm soo much. They're adorable. The goats are cute too. Do these folks have a website? Maybe a goat would make a good friend for Betsy when Maisie grows up, she's going to be bereft.

I only use goat soap!
So glad these nice people and their goats helped our Maisie.

I never realized goats were so cute until my cousin, my rough and tumble green beret cousin, sent me a picture of him feeding a baby goat... And holding it like a baby. Adorable. I'm so glad they could help with Maisie. I too was concerned the way this post started out. I've had goats milk once and loved it. I'm sure it makes Maisie happy too.
