Sunday Stills - Trees

I really struggled with this challenge. It sounds easy enough. Trees. There are trees everywhere. If you don't have a tree (or trees) you love...well, who doesn't have a favorite tree?

Sycamores are my favorite trees. Well, except for Blue Ash, White Pines, Maples, Redbuds, Apples... ;-). In my head I saw a picture of one of these fabulous, huge, best viewed in winter trees out in the middle of a beautiful field of rolling pasture. Couple cows standing under it? Perfect.

It wasn't a tough idea. Should have been a snap. I ended up being reminded of one of Ed's challenges several years ago - Power Lines and how they so often ruin a perfectly good picture. I finally found a clear shot of this tree, down by the river.

Next problem. They are so darn big that you have to stand WAY back to get the whole tree. At that point it runs the risk of becoming just a picture of a tree. Luckily I hit some great light this morning - no polarizer lens. The sky was that. blue.

I'm going to have to go back and look at this scene. That sure looks like a fallen down barn/shed next to this tree, but I sure don't remember seeing that. It's a road I drive fairly frequently, but I'm probably always looking at the trees ;-). Maybe Stella can set me straight on this.

By the way, the sky on these two shots might look funny. To get the file sizes down small enough for Stella and other folks with dial up internet connection, it looks like it's pixilated it pretty good :-/.

This shot is sort of interesting, but not exactly what I was wanting. Do you see the big tree behind all the little trees? I'm wondering if a wide angle lens might be worth exploring. Any thoughts?

Standing on the bridge, looking down the river. It's almost paddling time :-D.

I'm going to keep working on this challenge. I think I have a few more weeks before the leaves come in. I think it warrants a re-do.

You did well, none the less. I like 'em all. A summer tree challenge would be nice, although the starkness of winter trees has it's own beauty.

You met the challenge indeed!
In the first capture, the tree branches reach to touch the sky, while in the second one the effect is moody. The linear forest has me peering through its conformity to see the big tree on the other side and the last one invites me to join them for a great relaxing adventure!

I you've done a wonderful job!! My favorite tree is an old maple tree we have in our yard. Of course it's huge because of its age and I love trying to get that perfect picture that shows it off--There is also a whole eco-system living around it that I love to take pictures of too.

I hope you're having an enjoyable Sunday!!

So beautiful....!

(My favorite tree is Old Lugh, in my back yard. He has the most amazing soul....and sense of humor!) ;)

I love that first shot. We have several sycamores in the ravine behind our place. They are my favorites, too.

I love the stand of trees with the bigger one in the background. Thank you for suggesting this challenge. Nice job.

I also like the picture of the group of trees. I like all of their parallel trunks.
I noticed the old building, too. How interesting that you have never noticed it before. You'll have to get a shot in the right light so we can see it.

Great trees. I think Sycamore is one of the trees Chuck is still looking for for turning wood. :)

I can see a four season shot of the Sycamore! We don't have them here....or Redbuds, Blue Ash .....we so have green ash but I consider those weeds;)

I think you did a good job with this challenge. I love the second and last shots, especially. I also had trouble with this challenge and didn't really like my photos. I pictured something wild and twisted or with a strong silhouette -- and instead I got fruit trees in blossom. sigh. oh well.

Four very different views. I like #1 and #3 the best. I love white branches against blue sky, and the parallel trunks in #3 is interesting. I think you met the challenge just fine.

I like that second shot. The sky looks like it was painted in and makes a great backdrop for the sharp lines of the tree. I'd be interested to hear about the old building. It is fascinating to me how the camera captures and shows things that the eye misses.
