I have a confession to make. I live on a beautiful farm with some amazing sheep. I have a awesome dedicated work space in the Wool House and a loft full of fun fiber. I have drop spindles I could carry around with me, spinning wheels in the Wool House, a really cool antique Great Wheel in the living room. I don't even want to think about how many days go by that I don't spin any yarn. Something I love.
It's nuts. And it's all my fault. I just don't. make. time. And it's not like this is world peace - though God knows we could use some of that - but it's something that nags at me. That I let make me feel stupid and unproductive and ungrateful. And I'm not really any of those things. Well, definitely not ungrateful at least.
I'm not a bad spinner, but I'm not a good spinner either. I thought the other day, you know, if you just spent a measly five minutes everyday spinning something, it would probably be amazing how much better you'd get. How the second skein of yarn would probably match the first skein so your mittens fit better without some creative blocking.
And good grief! If you didn't set up the Mitten Knittin' challenge, would you have ever finished those mittens in the first place? Why does it take the Tour de Fleece or the Knitting Olympics to kick you in the butt??? Do you need an accountability challenge all the time?!?
Yes, apparently so.
So here's the February challenge - Find Five. If there is something bugging you - like not finding time to spin, knit, weave, take a walk, read a book, call someone rather than texting them, cleaning your house (okay, maybe not that ;-)... set yourself a goal to find just five minutes every day and do that thing (or things). Five minutes doesn't sound like very much, but if you are currently doing ZERO, those minutes are going to add up. Surely everyone can find five minutes somewhere.
If you'd like to join in, leave a comment here on the blog or join the Punkin's Patch Ravelry group. If you blog about it, let us know so we can follow along. Feel free to put the Find Five button on your website or Facebook or whatever you use. That's Hickory, B. Willard, Hank, Eli and one of the Adventure Chickens - five Punkin's Patch friends who are always getting stuff done. I'm not saying they are always getting stuff done we like them to...but they stay busy ;-).
I am going to spin something...every day. I'm also going to walk up the hill to Stella's...every day. I should probably clean my house too...but that's going to require a different kick in the butt. Probably from the health department ;-).
Anyone in?

This is a great idea! Count me in...just need to figure out what things I am going to pick to do in my five.

I'm in! Spinning, knitting and cleaning - 5 minutes each every day, that's my goal. Even if I have to get up 15 minutes earlier to get 'er done.
Yay! A challenge I can accept without feeling guilty that it will take time from stuff I *should* do! Count me in!
We're in. 5 minutes more a day knitting, and 5 minutes more a day doing tidy-up chores. (one for fun and one for work)
Oh you guys are KILLING me! Okay, (hanging head in shame) I'll add some house cleaning to my list too, but to even things out, I'm going to add paint or at least sketch something for five minutes too :-).
Holy smokes do I ever need this. I'm going to "create" something every day. I have far too many hobbies to narrow it down to one or two.
I'm in too. 5 minutes more - 1)crocheting mittens & a cowl, 2)cross stitching a confirmation gift, 3)tidy up chores (like Melanie), 4)unpacking - after 7 months it's overdue, & 5)walking (like Sara)
I had already slated this weekend for cleaning up/organizing my entryway and kitchen. Thanks for the encouragement Sara!

Saw your Twitter about Eli. That Andy says he does TO serve a purpose - every experiment needs a control, so Eli is the motionless standard by which everything else is judged!
OMG! Why is this?? Why do we let these things sit. I have to force myself sometimes, have deadlines etc.
My husband says that the only time the house looks good is when company is coming.
I will do this... only I will need to do a group of "5's". One for reading, one for projects and one for cleaning places in the house. I think this is the beginning of a good habit.
Like today. I sat down and instead of knitting and watching a movie... I read my new book. Five minutes turned into a half hour. It works well.
Great motivator! Count me in to read something from Spin-Off, or any fiber article or book :-)
I would like to take 5 minutes out of a day reminding myself of what is good in the world...
and maybe i should do that while im working on making my ab's stronger!!
I love this! Count me in! I am going to spend 5 minutes a day doing something for me :) I am going to get back to taking a daily walk. I started this year by doing 10 minutes of housework everyday and it has worked really well.
I'm in, as much as the back will allow. 5 minutes more cleaning the dining room so I can move the loom out where I'll actually use it, 5 more spinning, and 5 more at the carder. I'm already spending a ton of time knitting, so I'm good there!
Count me in! Hmmmmmm now let me think of what to do. Give me five minutes and I'll get back to you. Lol
I'm in. Had started spinning some Boudreaux and got stopped with knitting that needed to be done. Five minutes dedicated to spinning will work for me.
Super idea! And... if you find those 'five' for something you love doing - I'm betting your entire day becomes better!
LOL...it'll take me longer than "5" to clean off my leather bench...but I'm in!! Great idea~
I need five minutes to myself to just read a good book.
I'm end!

I can find five, I know I can...
Count me in!
I'm learning to knit and it's soooo slow compared to zipping through the rows of crochet! I haven't picked it up in a week so this challenge is just what I need! 5 minutes of knitting each day.
I'm in, I already began to study about sheep at least five minutes a day. I kept holding it for months now. The clean house...Oh that one would be really nice...every other persons house in the world is clean but mine...can I promise I will be promising it five minutes every day? Hahaha..ok, I'll take the challenge. And walk! I'll absolutely walk at least half the way to work! Silly city! Too much traffic facilities!
Ok I'm in. I should take this challenge with the guitar I bought last year, but I think I'll go with spinning too. I haven't done that in a long while. I suck at plying, so I get the bobbins full and then avoid the wheels. It'll feel good to have that wool between my fingers again.

I'm in too. I failed on the mittens last month so my first five minutes better be knitting. And sadly, I better spend at least five (or more!) cleaning!
Five can easily turn to ten ...which is proven to be what you need for your fingers to retain muscle memory.
It is a good thing, to make yarn everyday ;0)
Soon, you will not be able to let a day pass without spinning a few lengths..it is very habit forming.
I need a swift kick too... Thanks for the reminder!
