Always Make Time For...

...Sheep. I mean friends. Okay, your friend's sheep.

We didn't really have time. We'd both had a couple really crazy days. So far behind. So many things on the to-do list not getting finished...every day. Still, it was an invitation we couldn't pass up. I mean, good company, margaritas and sheep. At the end of the day, what more could you really want.

I got to go watch 195 lambs and their mommas get fed and ready for bed. I'm glad I thought to bring my camera.

The little princess on the right looks like she needs a flower garland around her neck, don't you think?

One of the guard dogs grabbing a last couple winks before he/she clocks in for the night shift.

There was an incident a few days before when Kathy caught her dogs chasing the neighbor's goats. She went to see what was going on and saw the dogs all working together to run the goats into their barn and as soon as they were secured, ran behind the barn to chase away something they felt was dangerous. So, even when these dogs are off duty, they don't miss a thing. Even on the neighbor's farm.

I think this was an old pond. I love all the lambs sleeping on the edge.

Keebler's cousin? Maybe brother or sister?

Things get a little hectic as everyone heads over to the barn to eat. Mommas calling for babies. Babies calling for mommas. Here's one mother and child reunion.

I have some fun video of the lamb races while the mommas were up eating dinner. I'll try to post them later. I need to get back to work. I'm really behind. But you already knew that ;-).

Thanks for the break!

I think each of our heavens is our own thing, and I think these photos are what my heaven will be like. Thanks for the smiles today.

P.S. We have bunnies again, but one didn't survive the mower... I think we have 5 babies left and they have their nest in the middle of our turn-about in front of the house. No trees for protection or anything. I'm trying to think of a way to shield them from the rain without freaking out mama. Any ideas? They have fur and seem to be about mouse size.

I can't believe how cute the twin lambs (?) are. Their ears are even held at the same angles.

Awwwwwwwwww!

Thank YOU! I needed a break too. We're installing some ceramic tile and trying not to kill each other. This helped. Ahhh!

Just found your blog and love it! Will come back often. We have baby goats and thought about sheep but we only have 2 acres so between edible landscaping, dwarf nigerian goats and lots of chickens, I'm not so sure we have room for a sheep or two.

So I'll come back here for a fix. Thanks! http://vikkisverandah.blogspot.com

Precious pictures of many, many baby lambs which I have never seen before.
Do those baby lambs know which momma is theirs or do they just choose any available teat from which to feed?
She's lucky to have such attentive guard dogs because the danger to her flock could be on the other side of the fence which we know does not deter the predators.
Great pics.

Oh no - they know exactly who belongs to who. A lamb who isn't getting enough from his own mom might try to bum from another, but most won't let them. There are some though that will.

I love these little lambs. Oh I wish I knew a sheep rancher close by...or maybe I would be in trouble if there were one. My college age friends sent me home with a bottle kid goat. I'd take on a lamb too if I had the chance :-) Kentucky looks so lovely and lush! Seems like another life time ago that I lived there. It is almost foreign to me now.

These are so adorable!
And it all looks much more bucolic than it probably is in a hectic life.

I am glad you took the camera too!
Amazing how in one of the top pics, the 2 babies are holding their ears almost exactly the same position.
When I started reading the sentence about dogs chasing goats, I did not think the ending would be so positive. Very happy it was.

I love the first photo. Anyone who doesn't believe that mothers give their all should imagine themselves as that ewe! Round, standing carefully, trying to eat but the first order of business is her baby. Too precious!!
And the lambs are so perfect. Great photos!

I'm so glad you took your camera! You are a master at getting just the right shot and then telling us what they are thinking or doing.
