What The Heck Is This?!?

I can guess the caterpillar part, but the eggs (?) attached?

And a neighbor. I was taking a picture of the chard and found it after the fact - one of the many fun things to do with a camera.

I have really enjoyed our swiss chard all summer. I want to pick it and put it in a vase.

Those are egg cases of a small parasitic wasp - natural bug control ;)

Wow..that Tomato worm is in big trouble! As joyknits said those are from a parasitic wasp that will feed off the worm. Beautiful pictures though!

ICK!!

Those eggs can't be good for the caterpillar though, look at the brown spots on it...

That's a bummer for the hornworm, but good for your garden that the wasps will control this tomato enemy!

yep, I was going to say something is about to have that caterpillar for lunch! which is good since he seems to be having your garden for his.

Looks Cool! But no idea about what they are!? Let me know if you do!

Yep, definitely egg cases of little waspies. The larva will burrow into the caterpillar and well, you get the idea from there. The caterpillar will decimate you crops, but luckily, you have some natural predators that have move in:) Bill & I saw a pretty good special about garden insects that touched on this particular bug and parasites on KET the other night.
