Santa's Little Helpers

There are too many pictures here, but I just can't decide which ones to keep and which to cut and I've been working on this for over two hours, so here you go. It was actually pretty dark when we headed out. I had my ISO set to between 4000 and 6400 to brighten everything. This will make sense when you get down to the bottom pictures and think, man, they must have been out there for hours.

No sheep were tortured in the making of these pictures.  Well, except maybe Maisie...but she kinda had it coming.  Just kidding ;-).

The boys are excited for the opportunity to go out and spread some Christmas cheer!

Maisie?  The Naughty Elf?  So mad we almost couldn't get her to leave the barn.  Even with CHEERIOS!  Hank and the other sheep look on in disbelief at her temper tantrum...or maybe it's her hat ;-).

Once she settled down, she actually had some fun.

Though at one point she'd decided she'd had enough and was going to go back to the barn...but then she saw there were more Cheerios...

Baaxter got his head stuck in the Cheerios box...

...and just kept on eating :-D.

I hope you can see Baaxter looking in at the Christmas tree.  Such a cute lil lambie :-).  He is surely on Santa's good list this year!

Maisie?  She probably "needs to pack a few things" ;-). **

Baaxter's ears are tucked inside his Elmer Fudd reindeer hat.  He didn't care :-).

I am planning to video another Christmas Eve cookie party in the barn tonight like last year.  I doubt I'll make it until midnight to see if the animals can all talk, but we'll see.

** This is a reference to one of the funniest David Sedaris essays, 6 to 8 Black Men.  Here's a link to a print version, but it's better to listen to him read it.  Should be some on YouTube.

Maisie just has to be different I guess the indignity of the elf hat was countered by the yummy Cheerios.
Merry Christmas!

It is my favorite David Sedaris story! I laugh so hard I cry.

Two of the pictures are of Diva Maisie getting Cheerios from Reg and John, no sharing of attention. As for the hat..... That's the better to butt you with, my dear.
Baaxter is adorable!

Oh what a treat!! That 'little' girl finally gave up and went for the FOOD! Good job with the hat. Loved all of it and that Baaxter remembering his time Inside :) I have not heard this David Sedaris story but will look for it............I love his Christmas Elf story at Macy's...
Merry Christmas!!

Oh, this had me howling. That projectile elf hat-I mean, come on, would YOU be happy wearing it? And Baaxter with his Cheerio feed bag strapped (stuck) on. That would happen to me if I didn't have opposable thumbs. What a scene.

Firstly, posted at 2 AM? Oh, my, Sara. Secondly, this is hilarious! Thirdly, have Auntie Reg and Uncle John bought stock in Cheerios yet? Love the scene. Love you.

Well, in addition to our shared enthusiasm for (adoration of) sheep, cats, dogs (especially Hank) red barns, gently rolling hills, and fields of grass, there is also David Sedaris. I love him too. Attended a performance a while back in Milwaukee and found it endearing to be surrounded by so many like-minded humor-loving folks. Thanks for sharing this story. (BTW, the link to the print copy also has a link where you can listen to him delivering this tale.)

Happy Christmas Eve! Baaxter's head in the box = love. I'm off to dig out some D. Sedaris stories = love. Good excuse to not clean the house up. Sara made me do it :-)

The tiny emoticons do not seem to want to display properly on the screen. It was supposed to be a series of Christmas trees and snowflakes:-).

What a great Christmas party for the kids - and adults! Love the real sheeps in among the cut-out sheeps. Nothing fazes those boys! Maisie wasn't fazed either, just mad. "I don't want. to wear. this stupid. hat! But I guess I will if it gets my treats." I can just imagine what SHE'LL be saying tonight at midnight! Have a wonderful Christmas everyone!

Best Christmas Party EVER! Maisie was a team player this time, so maybe she won't get the lump of coal after all.
Cannot wait to see what happens on Equinox Farm in 2015. Merry Christmas to everyone.

What wonderful, festive pictures you've taken! I love Baaxter wearing the Cheerios box! It reminds me of a dog I had years ago; she too got a cereal box stuck on her head, then kept shaking it trying to remove it! I noticed your Plow & Hearth sheep in the background; are they going to wear Christmas hats too? Wishing you a nice, peaceful, Merry Christmas ~ and thank you so very much for all of your entertaining posts throughout the year. You make every day begin with a smile!
Merry Christmas!
