Gato and Handy spend a few (or quite a few) minutes every evening scratching each others itchy spots. I've started collecting pictures while I sit out while Blossom runs around and eats clovers and it's become something I really look forward to seeing :-).
Somehow each horse lets the other know where to scratch.
Usually by itching the same spot on their buddy.
Or not.
Handy has it worked out so Gato uses his grazing muzzle to scratch fly bites on his stomach.
Yep, that would be a pretty good itcher.
The grazing muzzle is a life saver. Literally. With just a small hole in the bottom to really slow down their grass intake, the horses are able to stay out on the super lush spring grass without (usually) foundering. They still get plenty to eat; they just aren't able to over-eat.
I'm not saying a word...

How lovely to share itchy moments. I must say, it does remind me of the times when Mango sits on my shoulder and scratches my ears. It does feel so wonderful. I love the sound of that scrumptious Spring grass too. Love from Sherbetx
I've never seen a grazing muzzle before, but I have a couple of very fat horses that might would benefit from one. Enjoyed the pictures! I love it when they do that.

I suppose from the horse sight the grazing muzzle it's frustrating, but in the end it's very usefull...
We only cut the grass of the paddocks and put them their daily ration....not funny and more work for us!

It is fun to see horses 'grooming' each other. Unfortunately, Pippin has been a bit too enthusiastic with Doc and Doc's mane is a bit shorter!
I wish I could get Pippin used to the muzzle - I hate limiting his time on grass.
So how many potato chips can fit through that muzzle? Just curious...

One of our mares foundered becaused of them over eating spring grass. She's fine now, but one of those muzzles would have been nice.
