Rooster Rescue

"Hey, do you want this rooster?" my friend asked.

At least she asked. The person who dumped him in their yard, didn't.

I did miss hearing a rooster crowing and since he was headed to a bad end if I didn't take him, you know what happened. So, meet Tyrone.

Yes, his neck is really that long. He's not stretching.

We don't know what kind(s) he is.

Even better? Tyrone can't crow. Oh, you know it. He doesn't know he can't crow though and he practices all the time, but alas, he sounds like a coon hound. So, there's a famous coon hound around here named Tyrone and we decided if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

Comby says, "Yeah, whatever. I ain't goin' up in no stupid tree."

Too funny! I was all excited when I saw his picture and I said to myself "Now I will finally find out what kind of rooster I have!" because he looks just like yours. Then I kept reading to the part where you say you don't know what kind he is. Well shucks. Somebody told me he might be crele.

What a handsome feller to add to your farm! He really is nice eye candy.

Now that's one relaxed cat! Your rooster looks like a mixed breed. Columbia Barred Rockish and Americaunaish and Rhody-ish. Or I could be way off, lol. I bet the reason he sounds like a coon hound is that he is just a teenage-rooster right now. If he's like my pubescent fowl, his crow will improve quite soon.

He is so pretty!! I will have to send the link to my SIL and see if she might know what he is. She has done all kinds of crazy searching on hens and roosters, so she might just know.

Welcome to the family Tyrone.

Tyrone is a real beauty! And lucky too. I'm with Heather, he looks like maybe a mix of barred rock and something something.:-) Not much help here. I love how he got his name. It is so funny how they sound when they are working on learning to crow.

What a beautiful bird! I love how roosters talk to the girls, find them little yummy things to eat, calls them over, and stands back while they eat.

I like the hear roos crow...they are just good birds....as long as they don't get mean!

You cat is amazing, not even a chicken bothers him.

Could he be a Speckled Sussex? How's he getting along with the girls? (Hopefully he won't take up with the sheep like my rooster!)

A handsome addition to the farm!

I love the photos. Tyrone is quite pretty for a boy :) His crowing reminds me of a Bluejay that would try to mimic a seagull - it sounded like fingernails on a chalkboard!

My husband and I just found a rooster walking across a very busy road in the San Fernando Valley at night (los angeles)...a wonder he didn't get killed. After a brief chase he is now in our back bathroom with a bowl of water, vegetable scraps, and a shallow box with rags to sleep in. What next? How can we find him a good home? Also, what to feed him until then? Any advice welcome! Thanks -- Lisa W.
