Flashbacks

The best part of maintaining a blog, at least to me, is having a verbal and/or photographic record of what you'd like to remember. The ability to be able to scroll back or search for a specific date, person or activity is priceless.  The lack of regular posts lately has been the biggest only disappointment in my blogging "career".

Losing Abby last year was a blow.  Looking back, I'm happy I didn't do much actual blogging while she was with me.  Blogging takes time.  Frequently a lot of time.  During her short life I concentrated primarily on taking care of her.  Thankfully.  Enjoyably.  I'm glad I didn't lose any time to sitting in front of a computer.

In the months that followed though, I struggled to get back on my blogging feet.  Honestly, my own two feet were a struggle sometimes.  I'm not going to try to explain that because if you are reading this blog, you already understand.  I guess it's easier to break a good habit than a bad...and here I sit with a a year of nearly empty pages.

Instagram filled in a lot of gaps.  Frequently a lot of gaps.  It's so much easier to do a quick post right on the spot using just your phone.  You don't have to go inside and download pictures from your camera.  It's easy for people to leave comments, ask questions...  I have no idea what is going on with Blogger comments anymore.  I'm so sorry.  I am as frustrated as you are.

For all it's trouble though, Blogger is still an important tool.  At least to me.  And I'm glad there are still a few of us fossils out here keeping our journals, even if they aren't daily.  They are treasures.  They teach, they inspire, they connect us to friends and family.  They cheer people up...and sometimes make them cry.  You know...life.

And when I'm old and senile and living in a nursing home, I'd like to be able to look back through my old blog posts and remember that in May, 2019, the locust trees were amazing.  The prettiest I saw.

Long live us blogging fossils! Ha! Such beautiful views in May. I don't remember so many big trees.

I follow on IG but to me it seems that it is so abbreviated - no meat, so I really appreciate those who do take the time to blog.

I wish it would warm up here in the thumb of Michigan - 38 degrees and frost this morning. UGH!!

If you plant them, they will grow :-).

Please, please, please - never stop blogging. Selfish of me I know. But how would I start my day without some crazy woman, living on a farm in Kentucky, sharing her daily routine with me? Where else could I get such inspiration. Yea, I'm a selfish, crazy woman.

I, like many I'm sure, are grateful for any of your blog posts, instagram photos and notes and face book to stay connected to you and your lovely farm. Thank you!

I'm an old old fossil, although, I have Instagram I find it tedious and boring to snap a photo and immediately post it on Instagram and then move on.

For me, back in the Ice Ages, I still enjoy taking a photo with my camera coming in and downloading them, then adding to the blog post I've been thinking of .... a post I want to share with my heart.

So, although, I love your Instagram photos I really do enjoy the intimate connection through your blog. If you decide to just do Instagram I will still be there with you, but I love your letters to us through your blog ever so much more.

Hugs

i so love your blog as well - any and all posts are welcome and like lovely little presents i take my time unwrapping and enjoying. in other news ... as it happens, our farm is named locust lane farm, and our locusts have been screaming with cicadas the last two weeks. as long as you can stand the noise, it's really interesting to hear the different calls/noises they have, and how the racket soars and dies down at different moments or times of the day. i think the temperature might affect how much noise they make, too. i'd still rather listen to the pond frogs and tree frogs, though. --suz in NE ohio

Aw, I like how you said that..."letters" :-)

We haven't had a big cicada year in awhile. Probably about time... Love your farm name :-).

I always very much enjoy reading your blog, regardless of how often you post. The stories and photos are wonderful. And after all, you do have a farm to run! As for Instagram, although I don’t have an account myself (I’m not much of a picture taker, and most of my photos are of my cat) I’m grateful that your posts are public. It’s so much fun to look at the pictures and read all the comments.

I find it so much harder to tell a story in IG. And I hate that I can't go back and add pics or remove pics or do all the editing I can do with my blog.

That said, I pretty much fell off the blog wagon last winter. For some reason IG won't save pics I edit with IG tools to my phone. This means I'm basically choosing which pics to show twice (once for IG and once for the blog). And when I have a lot of similar pics (frost on the windows, maybe), the notion of having to go through them TWICE is just too much. At this point I'm so far behind that I don't think I'll ever catch up on what's been missed this year.

I'm trying to do better about putting up SOMETHING, but so far not really succeeding all that well........

Which makes me sad for all the reasons you mention.

Sigh.

I actually miss my own blog...but as you said, good habits are easier to break than bad ones, and that habit was well and truly broken. I don't do instagram, but i do enjoy your posts on facebook. I like the immediacy of those posts, and I like the way they're mixed in with all my other news. Is there a twitter feed I should know about? ;)

Thanks for this post. I find blogging more satisfying than Facebook or Instagram which are brief and unfulfilling. I also keep my blog as a form of a diary that I plan to revisit as I age. Plus I can search for things in it if I forgot something. I do print a blog book once per year because I do not expect the internet version to be permanent. I am able to blog from my phone so that helps too.
