Another Story

"So what's this sheep's story?" Dr. Bridge asked as she knelt on the ground next to us yesterday morning.  The stories...

As I sit there with my friends, waiting, I usually tell them stories.  "Remember that time when..."  Sometimes I just sit with them and tell them they were good girls, good boys, good ponies, best dogs ever... Sometimes I just cry and say "I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry."

I was told years ago that life with an animal is lots and lots and lots of good days...and one really bad one.  That's true with the stories as well - lots and lots and lots of good stories...and one last really sad one.  And even though the day is bad and the story is sad, at the end of the day I'm still grateful for the opportunity.

Lila had some classic stories, especially as a bottle lamb. It's fun to go back into the blog archives and re-read them. She was a character.  She will make you laugh.  And even though she settled a bit into the background as she grew up, she became a part of so many other sheep's stories.

Lila was one of my girls...that group of sheep as close to daughters as I'll ever have.  I had fun raising her and Grumpy Lila (unless there were cookies involved ;-) could always be counted on in return to raise up any new flock members, young or old.

Everybody loved Lila.  Probably because she told good stories.  Maybe because she was a good pillow ;-).

Oh NO, Sara. She wasn't that OLD. Only the good die young.... I'm so, so sorry, too.

I need to try to leave that "one last really sad story" in the future, but I tend to dread and worry and shed tears in advance for it, because it's just so hard to lose them.

Sorry to hear about Lila. I had never heard that about "so many good days and one really sad one" before.

Now I have heard it twice this week. Give the others a hug from All of us.

I’m so sorry too! Too short a life. Sara, oh Sara, your losses are coming too too fast and too often. Virtual hugs.

The wondeful thing about your farm Sara is thet because each animal is so loved by you and then us, they stay among your flock as you refer back to them with links, unpack their fleeces and and create beautiful knitted items. Thanks.

I’m so sorry about Lila, Sara. I spent some time last night reading your old blog posts about her, starting with her arrival at your farm. What a pretty, spunky little lamb! And she grew into such a beautful sheep. I enjoyed learning about Lila, and I hope the happy memories of your many good days with her will be of some consolation to you now.

I think Lila was the first little lambie that I read about on your blog. I was smitten. I’m so sorry for your loss.

Animals teach us so much about ourselves. They make us better people and their time is short. I often wonder if their short time is meant for us to care for more animals and pass/share more love and kindness to "All Creatures Great and Small"

Aww ~ Sweet, sweet Lila. You will be missed dearly. Always loved the photo of her sleeping next to the fence with her ear scrunched up. So sorry for your loss, Sara.

You have such a good way of putting into perspective, but that one bad day and the sad days after that weigh heavy, don't they? It's so clear how much you love your sheep and your sheep love you. Sending comfort.

Sending you a hug! Bad days and sad days you are having too many the last year, they are all getting older. They are so lucky to have you take such good care of them...she had eight good years...that is something. Goodbye Lila.

Like you said, Sara......."thankful for the opportunity"..... as she trots across the Rainbow Bridge to meet her other flock mates who went before her. Hugs and tears.

I am so,so,so sorry. I hate that phrase because it is one of helplessness. One of I should of seen this coming and if I had perhaps you would still be today. My heart aches for you.

Every sheep is unique and has a personality. When you know them all the loss of each one cuts deep every time. None of your sheep are in the background - you care for them all and do the best for them whatever the situation. Lila wasn't as old as some but all her days and stories were good ones. So sad for your loss.
