Some Sunday Summer Sheep Shots

I had a request for some head shots, so twist my rubber arm and force me to take my camera to the barn.  Well, actually, that was exactly what I needed.  A good swift kick in the butt.  I think this summer's heat and humidity, among other issues, has really taken a toll.

The short break in the weather last week really cheered us all up.  Today's steamy 88 degrees with a "real feel" of 97 was just...demoralizing.  I'm just so ready for summer to be over.  I'm a sheep at heart.  I'm happiest when I can comfortably wear a wool sweater.

These aren't my normal style of picture composition, but they are what was requested for the application for which they might be used.  Hopefully they'll inspire me to get back into the routine joy of taking more pictures again.

Actually, I've taken quite a few pictures.  My broken mojo is more in putting them into a cohesive blog post.  So...basically...here are some pictures.

Renny

Maisie

Muffin

Muuuuffffiiiinnn ;-)

The neighbor makes fun of me for how I say Muffin.

Biiiiiiiscuit ;-)

Daniel Not-Boone aka Big D

B. Willard...looking pretty bewildered :-D.

Priddy Liddy

Now that I think about it, I don't believe I've ever officially introduced the old rams who have retired here.  This is Jared.  Being a breeding ram (for 10 years), he was never coddled or played with or fed cookies.  He has become one of my very best barn buddies.

"I just look tough.  I'm really a sweet, lovable cookie monster.  I've been told I'm going to be in the hugging pen at some party they have here every fall.  I can't wait!"

"I ain't going in any stupid hugging pen.  And you can keep those stupid cookies.  Jared has gone soft in the head."

This is Rocky.  He's actually not as grumpy as he wants everyone to believe.  And he will let you hug and kiss on him and even eat a cookie or two now and then...when he wants to ;-).  If he looks familiar, he should.  He's Hershey and Spud's dad and grandfather to Biscuit, Muffin, Levi and Andy.

Wow, those are some good pictures of some great sheep! Biscuit and Muffin have grown up to be such interesting characterstuff.

Amazing what a few cookies will do to mellow out the most ornery of sheep. Well, maybe not Maisie.

Oh, these are great pictures! Of great sheep! From a distance it’s easy (for non-shepherds like me, at least) to think that all sheep look more or less alike (except for the colour of their fleece), but of course that isn’t the case. I’m so happy to see dear Muffin and Biscuit, and Priddy Liddy’s photo looks almost like a painting. Thank you!

So, I have a question after seeing all these older rams. When you bring them into your own flock with a bunch of female sheep, do the old rams attempt (or succeed) at breeding?

I agree about the challenge of hot weather. I live in South Dakota, and between the heat and the smoke (from fires from Canada to Mexico), I'm about to perish!

The rams were 'tutered upon arrival back in...April? They're girls are safe ;-).

Beautiful pictures. The old rams are lovely. I think rams get such a bad rap. Some of my sweetest, cuddliest sheep are rams.

Great pictures! Love the older boys. Now that they’ve been “tutored” they can keep their minds on the important stuff like cookies and hugs.

Could not agree with this statement more: <" I'm happiest when I can comfortably wear a wool sweater.">

Great face photos of the gang and I wish it would cool off up here and we would get a frost soon!

This makes me so happy. What a lovely Monday morning post!

It's so hard to pick, but sweet Renny may be my favorite of your sheep. I see such gratefulness and peace in her eyes <3

We've cooled off here; crossing fingers that we don't see anything in the 90s again this year!

I think you should have titled this post "All In The Family." ;-)

Always nice to have some good close ups and a reminder of who is who. I was about 50/50 on matching the right names to faces. Pretty much the way I am at remembering people face/names too.

I loved each and every adorable face! Wanted so much to reach out and pet them. Renny is looking very good. Her past is now very much passed. I'm sure she never thinks of those horrible days anymore. You are such a good sheep momma!

You've made my day! Awesome photos!

Fall will be here soon enough.

I hate to wish time away but this summer has been so hot I really haven't enjoyed my garden as much as usual. Still in the 90's this week.

It is very nice to see your family album. It really helps to recognize the individuals.

Those are splendid photos. I see the family resemblance between Muffin and her grandpa.

Maisie looks calm. Amazing.

That was a real treat. Funny how Maisie got in there also :) Thank you.
