In answer to a question about the breed of sheep I'm raising at Tanglewood, nearly all the lambs this year are sired by a Wensleydale. The last four ewes to lamb were bred to a Cotswold/Border Leicester ram. The ewes are mostly BFL/CVM/Romney combinations. I'm breeding for fleece softness, luster and length.
One ear up, one ear down, those tage can't be that heavy...can they? Sweet sweet babies. thank the Goddess I am not closer cuz I would really really WANT one :) Glad the weather is getting a little warmer.
Lordy, are they cute! If I came to visit, I would leave with one in every pocket!! I do think that you should be the Official Lambie and Sheepie Photographer of the Nation. I really do.
I'm not crazy about the tags either, but their ears do perk up pretty quickly. When lambing is finished this year, I'll have about 30 lambs running around and, without the tags, remembering which lambs go with which ewe becomes too much of a mental challenge for me!
They do make smaller, lighter tags; I use them for my Shetlands' little-bitty ears. And since I don't have a lot of lambs, I have the luxury of waiting until absolutely necessary – like when they leave for a new home or go to a show – before piercing their heretofore perfect ears. I don't have pierced ears, either; can you tell? heh ;-)
I was just wondering about which ears are tagged, I noticed that black one had the opposite ear than the others and wondered if one side was for ewes and the other for rams.
The boys get tags in their left ears and the girls have them in their right ears. Believe me, they do grow into those tags. Their ears will be up in a matter of weeks. These are not little bitty sheep. The ewes will end up 150-200 pounds and the rams more like 300 pounds.

Those wee ears drooping under the weight of a tag make me a little sad. I know; it's silly….

My fave is the white lamb looking straight at us, with the light shining through a fuzz-edged ear. And its hairy leg-warmers. :-)

So adorable! I love lamb season. And the droopy ears aren't sad to me. They just make the lambs looks a little tipsy...and make me laugh!

We use those smaller tags too (when we have to); they don't seem quite as intrusive! Those are some sweet babies. :)

Okay I have fully decided there is nothing cuter than baby lambs , well at least not right at this moment.
