It's that time of year. Even though it doesn't feel like it.
"What's a sheep gotta do to get a haircut around here???"
Sheep shearer extraordinaire Bill Haudenschield called last Friday to let me know they were on the way next week. And even though he'd have probably fit a quick stop in for us regardless of how many sheep we had to shear, because I'd already shorn the Cotswolds myself back in one of the heatwaves (also known as THE WHOLE SUMMER :-/), I didn't want to make them come set up just to shear the last two longwools. They get shorn twice a year and yes, their wool grows back in plenty time for winter.
So...you know what that meant.
Willard in front of the fan before and after. Willard loves him some fan action.
Here are a few Twitter pictures you may have missed from back when we were integrating Blossom into the main flock. Willard moved into her temporary stall, kicked her out, pushed her cot out of the way and parked it in front of her fan. Oh, Willard.
And then went so far as to roll all the way over.
Sheep aren't supposed to sleep like that.
WILLARD!!!
"Yeesh, I'm fine. Lighten up, lady."
I really enjoy my camera apps and quick posting them on Twitter like that. I decided to start saving those pictures in a Photobucket album as a backup and ended up adding it as a slide show on the right hand side.
The earlier pictures are no longer accessible though so (when I get some time) I'm going to try to pull my favorite baby Blossom pictures off my phone so they'll always be there. It will be fun to flash through them. Even the pictures of dumb ole Willard ;-).
I sheared Keebler and Willard the other day and ended up re-shearing Rebecca Boone as well because she'd already grown out so much I was afraid her fleece would be too long by next spring. Keebs, Mister Melodrama, peed on his freshly shorn fleece as I was shearing him (I shear them standing up) so his has already hit the wash tub.
I have a bunch of pictures and maybe a video (?) to share of my trip to Ohio Valley Natural Fibers last week (including Renny's roving :-). It's supposed to cool way off this weekend. Maybe I'll get everything caught up.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA ;-)

Hooray for cooler weather! I might need some of your help figuring out how to process some sheep fiber I have. Very impressive that you can shear yourself.
I didn't realize you could shear some sheep twice a year. I always thought it was a spring thing.
How interesting to see Willard hogging the fan!
Yeah, um, I don't think "interesting" is the word the rest of the sheep would use ;-).
Drop me an email Andee and I'd be happy to try to help :-).
Your shearing job looks better than the professional's job done on my sheep last April. About half of my shetlands look like they could use shearing right now. I sheared the kids 4H sheep but that was 30 years ago, now I am happy to pay someone else to do it.
I can't describe how much I love that first photo. He makes me laugh. Hoping to get some longwools at work this next season. Can't wait!
Too funny that Willard shoved the cot out of the way. I guess big boys don't need "sissy cots". He cracks me up.
Who says animals don't have their own personalities? Loved these pictures!
We are going to cool down too. Maybe into the 60s....Willard would like that. Sounds like you have been hot and busy.
What a beautiful, gray sheen Willard has when shorn. And I am glad for the cooler weather, too. This has been a nasty summer.
Like your sheep - I sit in front of the fan!! Sick and tired of this heat --- BRING ON THE COLD!! And a little rain?? Please!!
Old Inky used to sleep flat out like that; always scared me to death. Willard is such a beautiful color!
Oh I like the fan photos! It turned cool here barely 60 today..I hope it comes your way:)
Hi, I'm visiting from Common Ground..saw your blog on Debra's sidebar. I enjoyed "meeting" Willard. he's so funny cooling off in front of the fan. Love his name.
Babs
love that first photo of Willard. he has a really neat expression.
B Willard so needed a body buzz cut. Wish it was that easy for us to cool off this summer. Looks like Blossom did a good job teaching the flock how to cool off via the fan. I think B. Willard was smart to just move the cot instead of trying to lay on it. Closer is better ;-)
The top photo of Willard looks a lot like the logo I drew years ago that's on our business cards! WE just had a big cold front to through wiht almost an inch of rain. Supposed to be 50 tonight and only in the low 70s for the next many days. You are welcome to come visit!
What a face! He makes me laugh.
