No Pictures PLEASE!!!

This post is not for the faint of heart. Or stomach. Keep in mind that this blog is primarily an online diary of our life on the farm. And while I doubt seriously I'm going to forget this any time soon, you never know when you might need a great story sittin' around the nursing home ;-).

I took Gato out to the back pond yesterday. It was late afternoon and the flies were horrible. They were all over me as much as my poor pony. Next thing I knew, I'd sucked one in my mouth. I tried to spit it out - it's an instant reflex, as you can well imagine. There was nothing to spit out even though I was pretty darn sure though that it had gone in.

Coughing so much made my nose run. It crossed my mind that maybe it had gone up my nose instead, but I checked my kleenex and nothing. At this point I'm sure it had just gone straight into my lungs and I was well on my way to pneumonia...

My nose kept running - not uncommon during the summer in Kentucky - and we headed back towards the barn. About 10 minutes go by and I start sneezing. I blow my nose one more time and guess what. Out comes the fly.

Are you sitting down?

It was still alive!!!

If you think this story can't be topped in the category of disturbing things happening while riding your horse, visit Just Another Day On The Prairie for proof that it can.

I'll quit complaining.

And go throw up.

I have laughed with tears streaming down my face! Those of us in the health care profession can imagine your drama all too well. Glad it came out well in the end ( of your nose that is). Now when I read the story to the kids about "There was an old lady who swallowed the fly..." I can actually say I KNOW a REAL LADY who swallowed a fly.

OMG

That is SO disgusting!

(I'm glad you won't have pneumonia!)

I don't know which is funnier --the incident itself, or the fact that you've actually blogged the whole thing. (You know .. it's really, really hard to type while laughing so hard the tears obscure the screen!)

Ohhh!I was thinking about that poor fly! He must be a real lucky one to escape, after being swallowed by a CrazySheepLady! :P lol!
(Glad you are OK!)

LOL that was great. Kind of gross but great. I'm glad it ended up ok.

Oh, how we can laugh at your expense. Now I want to hear the fly's version of events!

Wow, that's wild! I had a Biology teacher once that swore he inhaled a french fry and he blew it out his nose. Maybe I shouldn't have doubted him! Anyway, I'm glad you both survived the ordeal. Fortunately, it wasn't one of your bees!

What I want to know is if you gave it mouth to mouth and saved it from drowning:)))))))

I'm just glad it was the husband that feel in the hole and NOT me, he's SO much more athletic:)

Thanks so much for the laugh today. I feel for you, but at least you got it out and it's not still crawling around in there.

I agree with Violetsky-I would love to read the fly's post on his blog of what happened to him today. He may have been even more grossed out than you were! He'll probably have nightmares...

ROFLMAO!!! I am laughing 'cause I remember giving a dye workshop at our arboretum when, in the middle of my very important dissertation on natural dyes and don't strip the forests bare just to dye your yarn, when a fly flew in my mouth and down my throat!!! Clearly, this fly was a kamikaze pilot in a former life.
But to have one come out your nose! I am in awe and shall bow to your greatness. :)

OMG, is right. I know it wasn't funny at the time but it was a funny story! :) :)

Your telling of the story was hysterically funny, but I am sure that the real life experience wasn't funny for you!

Speaking of flies, this reminded me of a YouTube video that Kathy showed me a few weeks ago...a must see for cat lovers:
