Every Night

Gato and Handy spend a few (or quite a few) minutes every evening scratching each others itchy spots. I've started collecting pictures while I sit out while Blossom runs around and eats clovers and it's become something I really look forward to seeing :-).

Somehow each horse lets the other know where to scratch.

Usually by itching the same spot on their buddy.

Or not.

Handy has it worked out so Gato uses his grazing muzzle to scratch fly bites on his stomach.

Yep, that would be a pretty good itcher.

The grazing muzzle is a life saver. Literally. With just a small hole in the bottom to really slow down their grass intake, the horses are able to stay out on the super lush spring grass without (usually) foundering. They still get plenty to eat; they just aren't able to over-eat.

I'm not saying a word...

The Beatings Will Continue...

...until morale improves!

Look at the pretty light this morning. We actually had even prettier fog, but it went from too foggy to not foggy enough in just a matter of a couple minutes. Still, the light was nice and I decided I'd go ahead and try for a few pictures.

The sheep had all come back to the barn by that point though. They go out and eat, come back and sleep. Go out and eat, come back and sleep. Go out to eat, come back to sleep. Would it kill them to do a little "work" and go pose for some pictures?

Apparently that would be a yes.

"Rabble, rabble, rabble..."

"Seriously. I can't believe you are making us do this."

"We hate this place."

"Rabble, rabble, rabble..."

I ran PW "lovely and ethereal" action on this...because it should have been lovely and ethereal just on it's own. Sheep.

Yeah, this was a real hardship for you all. Lila and Graham Lamb.

Ewen and some of his little friends.

"I'll go out and play and eat any time you want!"

Blossom's Bored

This is our second straight day of rain.

Sometimes it's nice to "have to" stay in and take a nap.

Unless you're a kid.

And you are soooo bored.

But, still, those naps are pretty good.

Especially when you have your favorite (and indestructible) boots to sleep on.

Don't get me wrong, we actually really needed this soaking rain and I really, really appreciate it. However, the Kentucky Sheep and Fiber Festival starts this Friday and we'd sure like some stellar Kentucky weather by then.

Here's a cute little video I shot with my iPhone last night when it finally stopped raining long enough to go run around in the front field.

Poor Ba-ba. It's supposed to stop raining sometime after lunch ;-).

Good Morning!

It was chilly crawling out of bed at 5:30 to give Blossom her early morning ba-ba. She'll sleep later than that, but I usually wake up (unfortunately) and figure I'll get up, give her a ba-ba and crawl back under the warm covers for a bit.

She tootled around the kitchen some and then asked to go out on the porch. Weaslie said she'd go with her so I opened the door and walked over to shut the porch gate. Wow.

Gorgeous sunrise! Although, red skies in morning... That's okay. I'll enjoy this while it lasts and hope it's a faulty forecast.

It was actually light enough that I could see the horses grazing in the front field, but when I exposed for them, I lost the sky and actually the sky was much more fiery than I was able to capture, no matter what I tried. Will need to study up on that.

Here you can see a tiny hint of a horse or two, but what I really like is the solar lantern (from the winter mailbox decorations) is still shining bright, greeting the dawn.

I have a new found fun blog to recommend, thekitchensgarden. Celi writes wonderful stories and takes beautiful pictures of her "farmy" world. At the end of each post she signs off with "Good morning." and adds a short tag of what the day might entail. What a nice way to start the day.

Good morning!* It's a beautiful, cool morning and I am looking forward to taking a fun riding lesson, teaching a fun weaving lesson (great trade!) and hopefully taking a nap in the sun with getting bigger every day Blossom. 20's home and he's looking forward to some riding as well :-).

______________

*Don't get too excited. There's no chance I'm going to take up Celi's consistent predawn blogging ritual. It is nice to watch the sun come up sometimes...but not every day ;-).

Oh 20 Won't You Come Home?

When last seen, 20 was headed down the driveway with his Uncle John. After a couple weeks playing second fiddle to Blossom, he was excited to be off on a vacation to The Hillside. And he was looking forward to getting fitted for some summer-time short britches.

Since then I've received numerous pictures of his many adventures and am now concerned that he might not ever want to come home. It's been a grand time for sure. In fact, you can view these hilarious pictures on his very own Picasa Web Album.

Last week, in an effort to entice him back, we opened the pool. He was mildly interested, but quickly pointed out that he would need Auntie Reg to make him some swimming trunks first. A clever delay. Well played, 20.

Today Ms. G. upped the anty.

She brought him his very own "pony"!

Is that not the cutest thing ever? He/she needs a name. Well, I guess first off we should decide if it's a he or she, then a name ;-). Leave your suggestion(s) in the comments and when 20 comes home, I'll have him draw a winner and pick out something fun to send out.

In the meantime, this little sheepie looks a bit worried about the new home. Sure would be nice if 20 was here to comfort him/her. Luckily Blossom is here to help.

"Oh there you go again with the Blossom stuff. I may just NEVER come home!"

Oh 20, won't you please come home?
