I Knew It Was Bound To Happen

I walked into the barn the other morning and saw Jester out grazing by himself.  And it was quiet.  Nothing but chickens rustling through the straw, sheep chewing cud and birds singing.  I stopped.  You know it's going to happen and you think you are ready for it and for goodness sake, she's in such bad shape it's got to be a blessing...but still.  The quiet was deafening.

I've listened to Elizabeth yell at me for more than 11 years.  That's a lot of yelling.  She's spent the last year living in the retirement community continuing to yell at me but specifically yelling at Jester for various "crimes".  He agrees that's a lot of yelling, but he's taken it well, just sighing and doing whatever she's demanded.  I guess some marriages are just like that.

After a minute or so I walked out the back door, ready to face things, so glad that for once I didn't have to make a hard decision.

And she was just sound asleep!  Jester had managed to Sneak Out and was enjoying a bit of peace and quiet...for once :-).  You can hear for yourself.

"Okay, I can see you."

"But I'm still gonna yell at you!"

"I know..."

Elizabeth and Jester were several years old when we got them.  We guess they have probably been together for at least 15 years.  And I will miss the yelling.  Eventually.

Does jester have a goiter?

Oh dear! She is loud. Bless you and these two! Do you have to treat her pain?

They don't know but are thinking maybe a tumor. Had three vets look at it several years ago and all determined he was too old to worry or try and operate. Little did we know, three years later he'd still be going strong!

Elizabeth would rather we Left Her Alone! If I could figure out a way to bake something into a cookie...

I'm glad she was just asleep. I was bracing myself -- its always hard to lose an animal, even when they are old, and its time. I'm glad it isn't her time quite yet.

I want to come live with you when I get old. All I want, when I am too old to walk, is some love and respect. You are wonderful!

OK Sara...that was not very nice!

You will for sure miss her yelling when she is gone. I'm also glad it wasn't today;) I know because I made the mistake of giving my little dog a "bite" of my sandwich when she was a puppy. From then on she would bark at me whenever I ate, even though I no longer shared. She died last year and even though I didn't think I would miss her barking, I do:(

Elizabeth gave us all a scare! Glad she lives to yell another day.

My heart went into my throat. I am glad she is ok. Poor Elizabeth, though. She is in bad shape, it seems. But she is not in pain, is she?
Hugs to both of them.💗

I'm glad it was just a scare, though I know how you must have dreaded the walk to her little pen. The silence is deafening, isn't it? My oldest sheep is 14 this year, and still going (though I have lost most of her daughters already). Hope Elizabeth and Jester have many more years together.

Oh, I'm glad she was only sleeping. I had already pulled a tissue from the box. I love the puppies from your last post...and the two lambs looking at the bumble bee is so sweet! I am a little behind in reading your posts!

I love their names! That was scarey...didn't know what you were going to find 'round that corner. But such a heartfelt post to read. Thanks for the smile today.
Blessings and Sunshine,
Valerie

I completely understand about making those decisions. I had to make one about my cat last weekend. They are not fun. I'm glad the ole gal is still a yelling her hear out.
