Young ram lambs playing the headbutting game, then doing it for real to establish their pecking order the next fall at breeding time.

Have been lucky enough to help with lambing for several years now, and if I had to pick just one thing I love about sheep, it would be the way the ewes 'talk' to their lambs during labor, and the reassuring little noises they make immediately after lambing, often while multitasking, licking the lamb clean and dry. (I'm sure there are examples on YouTube).

I have quite a few sheep books, mainly farm or knitting related, but stumbled across 'Beautiful Sheep' a few years ago, of various breeds at their finest, it's literally a glamorous photo shoot of many different breeds of sheep, here's the Amazon link
http://www.amazon.com/dp/0312385129/?tag=googhydr-20&hvadid=31545971117&hvpos=1t1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=8068366125945109851&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=b&hvdev=c&ref=pd_sl_8y5dd8sjn9_b

(by the way my first attempt at replying often doesn't work either, not sure why)English sheep galhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11490632499588633341noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8457557437300345355.post-28439432812592645432015-02-21T04:04:10.098-05:002015-02-21T04:04:10.098-05:00Maisie was the first sheep in my life.I found your...Maisie was the first sheep in my life.I found your blog around the time of her birth and instantly fell in love with ALL sheep.I shared my interest in your blog with my sister, who also LOVES sheep now too.Two Christmases ago,my sister bought me one of your calendars for a gift.It touched me so deeply I cried. The "Keep Calm and Hug A Sheep" card is STILL on my fridge door.I love how you present sheep to us each day. That's all I have to go by.However...my boyfriend can sound EXACTLY like a sheep.{I heard real ones at exhibitions} To give me the giggles,he'll ba-a-a-a-a-a out of the blue. I'm going to try to duplicate it, but I'm sure the original was much better. . . . . .

I have loved sheep most of my adult life. For years it had been my dream to have some land and a small flock of sheep to raise as "pets" and for their fiber. When I became disabled in 1999 I had to graciously abandon my dream and live life in a drastically different way. I had always collected sheep and sheep "items". When my collection reached 100 I re-evaluated it and realized how many I had added just because it was a sheep, not because I really loved it. So I thinned out my collection down to (a) sheep that were a gift and (b) sheep that I truly loved and that were meaningful in some way. The remainder I sold at a garage sale. Now I have my small, lovingly curated collection that I look at often and it brings me such joy. It had always bothered me that I did not know about the different sheep breeds, so I began to research information through different sheep blogs. I was fortunate to find your blog first!

My hope is that someday, health permitting, I might be able to travel to Equinox Farm and attend one of your public events. It is a hope like that which makes it easier to live my very disabled life. I have a "bucket list" of dreams, and visiting you and your flock is definitely at the top of my list. I am so very grateful to you for your blog; I have learned so much from you and look forward to each new entry!

Sorry this became so long . . . . thank you for sharing your life and your sheep with us!
Warm Regards, Lisa Lisa Smithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17325602859641802032noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8457557437300345355.post-20071401584485822712015-02-20T21:06:56.221-05:002015-02-20T21:06:56.221-05:00I LOVE their sweet, sweet faces and those thick wo...I LOVE their sweet, sweet faces and those thick woolly coats.
